From an earlier thread:
Lots of hype, false positives, and other failures by these systems. https://abc7.com/post/stu.../18073796/ https://apnews.com/articl...2a2a7a0249 https://www.cnn.com/2025/...och-school https://statescoop.com/ft...d-schools/ |
| Typical medal detector gate costs like $3000, and each HS needs like 4? How much does this one cost? What’s the advantage AI can bring over traditional ones? It’s ridiculous to have a more advanced weapon detector than airport. I hope some journalist is interested in digging more, especially this procurement doesn’t appear on BOE approval list. |
| They don’t need all this expensive tech. They need to keep bad kids out of good schools. There were reformed schools a long time ago, and when a boy got into trouble with the law the judge would say “son, it’s the military or jail, your choice.” They came out changed men. |
Not district just Taylor at his kids school from a company a block from his kids school. Nothing to see here. |
It's not more advanced than airport scanners |
And false positives and failures to detect true positives. This is why they’re not used that much at airports. Out kids are not Guinea pigs. |
They are to Taylor. That's why he bought this without telling you. |
Taylor does not have high school aged kids, what are you talking about? Do you mean his former HS? |
DP. But his kids will eventually be in high school if they aren't already, won't they? Did families community give input? |
|
My kids graduated, but it's absolutely insane that the public school system will do this much recording of kids, and AI is bound to create problems and misidentify. I can't believe that parents and students aren't up in arms about VOLT AI. If I were a kid I would be organizing student walkouts.
Yes, it's expensive, but I would prefer metal detectors like Jackson-Reed has. |
How could anyone be up in arms when Taylor did this without telling anyone. |
Once a premier school district can you believe this is where they are? Do they even understand what they are planning to bring??!!! |
