What? I’m not recommending anything? I said some teachers were planning a 4 day weekend and PTCs at an alternate times and their plans got screwed up; something I feel badly about. Where is there anything along the lines of a recommendation? I am a little worried about your reading comprehension here if you’re actually a teacher. |
My deepest apologies. So sorry to have assumed as a parent you had problem solving skills. |
I mean a couple hundred is a decent sample size. Are you in a dcps teacher group or have a lot of colleagues working in dcps? No? Then STFU. |
Wow. Miss the point and then attempt to gaslight… poorly. |
Ha, our charters doesnt. even have PTCs at all |
Yep, they are going to be in for a rude awakening when they realize charter schools don’t just bend over and cater to parent’s every whim. |
DP. We chose DCPS over charters but it is very weird to characterize two PTC a year, for a total of 30 minutes of face-to-face communication, as "bending over and catering to parents' every whim." Even thought they are short, my spouse and I always feel like we get good information from PTC and it has really helped us understand things about our child and their experience at school that helps as do a better job supporting her at home. It doesnt' feel like there is any downside? I don't get it. |
NP. Why would teachers be upset to miss PTCs if they can schedule them at alternate times and take the day off? Is taking that day off in their contracts? Do they take a personal day? |
My charter flipped the PTCs that would have happened during snow-mageddon to virtual and now the parens and teachers are demanding we keep a virtual option going forward. Which we will, because it makes sense. Not every parent/teacher demand is a whim. For the charter that doesn't have PTCs at all, do they have something else? Teacher office hours, dedicated time for check in calls, anything? |
Because we like to give parents a comprehensive update. Many schools do not offer alternate times so you can date the day off. Personally my school has us come in regardless if we are finished or not. Also I barely get any time to plan as it is so having to try to schedule on my own planning time sucks. |
So the alternate scheduling isn’t available to all teachers? |
NP but also at a middle school charter that doesn't have PTCs (likely the same one) -- three things happen: 1. there is a lot of communication to the parent about grades (report card comes home every two weeks and a very thorough printout with every single grade at the trimester) 2. they want students to address issues first, so they have "office hours" after school every week when students are encouraged to stop by 3. if parents still have an issue, they offer "parent hours" before school that need to be booked. But the lack of PTC is by design, they want to student to start taking charge of their education. |
No. Some teachers can use their planning, others do not have the time. It varies by teacher and school. I do give weekly updates but I understand the need for a deeper dive. I am happy to meet with parents but it will now have to be on the phone and very brief. I like meeting in person or via video conference (personal preference). |
So a couple of hundred teachers immediately responded in your “DCPS teacher group” that they were upset about PTCs being cancelled. I call BS. |
What? I’m a dcps teacher and can’t believe they cancelled PTCs. Did you know in some districts there is a PTC per quarter? Imagine that, lazy colleague. |
