You’re missing the point. “I don’t want to” =/= “there’s no time”. |

We made both our kids real breakfasts up through middle school, when they were still willing to do it. They would sit and read a book while they ate normally and often the parent who made breakfast sat and ate with them and read the news. Also, conversation happened.
By high school, my kids prioritized sleep and also they just stop wanting to eat breakfast or at least mine did. So it was grab something on the way out the door, if lucky. I don't think it really takes all that much time to do this. It's an extra 10-15 minutes in the morning. |
No one wants to eat a full breakfast before a swim practice. |
| I'm not hungry until about 11. |

I didn’t as a child, but my kids do now. One high school and one middle school aged. They have to leave the house at 740. I wake up at 630 and start breakfast around 645. Today they had hash browns, eggs, avocado and fruit. They wake up around 650/7 am and come down around 710/715, which gives them 25-30 min to eat and pack their water bottles etc for school. They both swim after school for 2 hours, so I feel like I can’t just hand them a pop tart or a yogurt, which is how I grew up. Twice a week the high schooler also swims before school, so on those days, I make breakfast sandwiches so he can eat them faster.
Once you are in the routine of it, it’s a lot easier to maintain. Half of the battle is making sure you have all the ingredients on hand. If you are pressed for time, they make premade frozen breakfast burritos and sandwiches to make your life easier. Once my oldest leaves the house, hopefully I will still have the willpower to continue for just the one kid! |
Pp. adding that my morning swimmer leaves on his own and I have no idea what he is eating at 530 am. Maybe a granola bar or a bagel. But when he returns at 7am, he gets a huge breakfast. It doesn’t alter my schedule at all since he is still eats breakfast at the same time. |
So don’t. No one is saying you have to. What is even the point of your post? |
And here I was, thinking that adding /s was too heavy-handed. |
Yep, my gym is five minutes away. I'm lucky. I do a 30 minute HIIT workout every morning. I love it. I used to be a night owl, but perimenopause changed everything! I'm asleep by 9:30 most nights and up at 5. |
| Yes but I’m a SAHM. |
Why do you assume they have the same kind of family as you? |
|
Yes, but I am also basically a SAHM. I have part-time paid projects I work on but none require me to get out the door quickly in the morning.
6:45 am - husband wakes up and works out 7:20 am - I wake up my two middle/high school aged kids 7:40 am - breakfast is on the table - I cook something like breakfast burritos, eggs & bacon, pancakes, etc. Takes them 10 minutes to eat. 8:10 am - kids leave for school which starts at 8:30. I don't eat with them - I prefer to eat later, like 10 am. |
| I wake up at 6:15, go make coffee (keurig, takes 10 seconds), feed the cats, sit down with my coffee and play LinkedIn games and check email and usually get a few responses in, make sure my teens are up (usually are) and go get ready about 20-30 minutes later. Takes me about 20-40 minutes to get ready depending on if I am washing my hair. Packing lunch and stuff is easy, because we are a family that preps stuff the night before for the most part so it's just assembly grab and go. I'm out the door by 7:35am. |
| ^Oh sorry I don't eat breakfast. I take fruit to work and have stuff in my work fridge and pantry. My kids don't really eat breakfast either, but sometimes will have coffee, fruit, or cereal. It's fine. |
