He certainly thinks that "...teaching people how to live well when they are surrounded by bad actors is good thing for society." And I think you're also right in thinking that he hoped for something "better than religion" would come along to help us be better. I think it's happening. Slowly, good people are leaving religion. That is the first step. A much needed second, or even third or fourth step, is to change human nature so we aren't always looking for a reason to want to subjugate and harm other people. Right now, religion plays that role. |
| Well so does money, status, all sorts of socioeconomic grievances. |
Correct - and currently Religion is used to fool the masses. Trump, an atheist, has the support of most of the religious people. Not the smart ones, but most religious people aren't smart. |
Religion is the opiate of the masses. |
This is some backwards arse logic. Sorry, you don’t know Christ if you’re an atheist |
Knowing Christ and knowing about Christ is not the same thing. To know Christ is to have a relationship with Christ. Again, you cannot be an atheist and know Christ. I know about Donald Trump, but I don’t know Trump. I was taught about Obama in school, but I don’t know him. |
Some of us don't KNOW Christian-speak and it would be better if posters didn't use it here, where there are all kinds of people, not just Christians. |
You are still 100% incorrect. Many of us did "know" christ. I was raised in an evangelical community and once was an avid crusader for christ. I used to claim I had the feeling of Jesus in my heart. I also grew up and learned the real truth. It is all BS. |
Sounds like you can know Christ and then un-know him. Pp knew Christ and then un-knew him and became an atheist. |
Just like people who find God later in life, the zeal of the converts to atheism is particularly dogmatic and fervent. |
And yet he seems to have abandoned any “hope to evolve into something better than religion” and now openly espouses the benefits of Christianity. |
Dawkins does not openly espouse the benefits of Christianity. Dawkins is an atheist. |
If you realized that more than half of of the people did not recognize the benefits of vaccines, You'd probably be zealous about getting people to recognize their benefits, too. The same goes for religion. Once the majority of people don't believe, we'll be better off. |
It is better to have zeal and dogmatism for truth than millenia old fairytales. |
