Why has DC failed so badly on clearing the streets?

Now they are treacherous concrete sheets of ice. Haphazard and random. Worst performance we’ve experienced and we’ve had several major storms over the decades.

+1

This is my issue. They aren’t even trying to clear anything anymore. My road was never plowed. Many roads were never plowed. And DC just keeps putting out messaging about the expertise of all of thr people driving plows and Chancellor Ferebee showing off clear sidewalks for school. Meanwhile none of these things seem to actually be happening. Like just keep plowing the roads.

Next time try dumping your cognitive diarrhea to ChatGPT instead of showing your whole ahh on DCUM. You might learn a little basic civics and the fundamentals of how government operates.

CM Brooke Pinto (Ward 2) states that the lack of preparedness goes back to the Federal government basically impounding $1B of DC's budget last year. DPW had to freeze hiring for critical positions.

Oh please.

They reap millions in speeding and parking fines, spend it on bike lanes that no one uses and they have no money left to plow streets properly.

But there is money - what are you talking about?

There isn't enough of the right equipment to deal with what fell this time.

Isn't Brooke Pinto kind of Republican? Or at least DC republican?

I commuted from the suburbs to DC near Union Station today and the city is totally unready for normal commute traffic. Many three-lane roads down to one lane, two-way side streets down to one lane. Sidewalks hit or miss with dangerous piles at corners. Pedestrians waking in the streets because it's easier.

There are lots of dump trucks waiting to take snow away, so I see that theyre trying, but it's really not functional yet.

You can not scrape frozen ice and it’s been below freezing since last weekend. You people complain about everything.

Did the city just give up? I drive around quite a bit and I don't see anyone working on anything. I can't remember the last time I saw a snowplow. This incompetence is unreal. It feels like neighborhoods should just take up collections and hire their own private plows.

I think the only trucks that can adequately plow are too big to go down small side streets which are the ones not plowed at this point.

I saw a big plow shaving some more ice off the side on Michigan today but meanwhile side streets are still snowy / icy.

90 percent of the streets in our neighborhood have become one-way streets. There are traffic jams *everywhere* because people can't agree which way traffic should go. It's turning 10 minute drivers into half hour trips. It's a really sorry display by our government.

snowplows are useless at this point. They are removing ice from the main roads. I did see them around today.
