Really ? 10% of US men marry older women. And this percentage grows, so as the overwhelming share of marriages when spouses are roughly same age.

Large gap relationships were indicative of large income gaps. And it caused early widowhood - a negative factor for female wellbeing. The share of early widows has dramatically fallen as well

Men in their mid to late thirties decline rapidly and exponentially. Women tend to age gradually and are still recognizable at 40 vs 30. Men at 38 usually don't even look like the same person they were a couple years ago.
