So how was the cake and are you taking a piece to the b***h?

Happy Birthday!

She acted as if it was the saddest thing she had heard. She phrased her response as if nor my family or husband were unable to order it for me.

I’ve always ordered myself a cake. I never realized people’s spouses did the ordering for something as simple as a birthday cake?!.

Only if you think so. I don’t think so!

I think this is like the posts on Mother's Day - if you have a great marriage then getting your own cake isn't an issue. If you have a crappy marriage then having to buy your own cake is just one more thing your spouse doesn't do for you and it stings.

So true

Same with school kids...they bring their own birthday treats. Why should it be any different for adults?

Not sad at all, if it works for you and your family. We do a few celebrations a bit different than many, because... well we like it better our way.

Sadder than no cake at all. My DH (passed) was one of those husbands who did not buy presents (but he would get me the most amazing Valentine's cards) which was very hard to handle--he also didn't want xmas presents--so I learned to treat myself with what I wanted. As for birthdays, they were not a general thing for my family when I was growing up--random years there might be a small celebration--but my son always does something for me, a gift or a concert or dinner.

I had a MIL who insisted on buying me a birthday cake every year even though I was 250lbs

It was cruel

I don’t even like cake. I really don’t. And probably especially because of her.

She used to insist that I take home ALL the cake and I would put it outside for the birds

Just grease and sugar and butter … not the reason I was overweight at all. Her son’s cheating on me was the reason I drank myself to sleep every night.

I ordered a cake for my favorite celebrity's birthday one year

I think that's charming

If you like cake

I also ordered myself Roses one year for Valentine's Day ... but I was so depressed that amazon boxes were piling up from all the stuff I ordered for myself and I didn't find it until 2 months later when it was all moldy stuff.

The actress Valerie Bertinelli once wrote a book where she said she was so deep in depression she was constantly making these jalapeño poppers and had boxes piling up that she never even opened. Also that she once confessed her weight to Victoria Principal to be 165 and she said VP actually gasped.

And then after the People bikini comeback cover, and she married again, she relapsed over some years and she had to do it all over again.

She's such a beautiful woman overall, there's nothing wrong about her, she has a beautiful and talented son.

But man, has she gone through the weight ups and downs.

I think when you go through it you can order yourself whatever you want.

But it’s okay when you say it?

Victoria Principal is such a giant a-hole.

I have a vivid memory of her saying during an interview that she never eats cheese and nobody should since you might as well rub it on your thighs since that’s where it will end up.

Here’s a link to the famous cheese quote. Although she said this in countless interviews when she promoted her dumb book/diet.

No I order cakes several times a year because I like cake and all our birthdays are basically the same month at my house. We also go get cupcakes several times a month.

I am happy to order my own cake. Then I get what I want. I am actually not a cake person so I choose either ice cream or some kind of crisp.
