| Totally fine, OP! Good for you, and ignore the haters. Happy birthday!! |
| I am picky about cake and the others in my family would eat a yellow box cake with canned frosting and would make that for me, feeling like they did something special because they “made” it. I’m picking out my own cake, thank you. |
| not sad at all. very common. a non issue |
It happens as you age up and your spouse and friends die off. |
|
Oh it's fine OP. My husband orders the cakes for all of us, including himself, because he is very particular. It is best that he pick out his own.
That person was insensitive. |
😄😄😄 |
Ditto. And it’s not because he’s particular, it’s because that’s just how it happened. I cook dinner for everyone every night - including birthday dinners, including my own - and DH orders the cakes if we are having cakes. Never occurred to either of us that might be strange. |
| Self-care is never sad. It's so important to love yourself and celebrate yourself. Buy yourself flowers, cakes, jewelry, all of it. I feel sad for people who don't understand that but I never say anything to make them feel bad. |
Or you may be sending the message that their company is what matters most. |
Same here. My cakes taste better and are prettier (I’m an artist and it has extended to cakes). I do a theme for everyone, including me - usually something about the year that was special or reminds me of them. Doesn’t mean my family doesn’t care about me, just that I do the cakes. |
| Happy birthday! It isn’t said. Cake! Enjoy. |
We are living in a pandemic of obesity, diabetes and cardiovascular diseases, this trend of celebrating with cake and booze needs to end. |
|
Totally fine! I pick out exactly what I want and get it. DH or the kids would but I buy what I want and have for years. It’s not sad, I do it because I get what I like.
Tell your coworker some of us also buy ourselves birthday and Christmas presents. I like to treat myself well! |
| No it's not strange but I like home baked cakes better. They taste fresher to me and are generally softer and not as stiff/firm. |
Yes, absolutely I do. Sometimes the entire week and several versions of it! I declare it my birthday week and celebrate. Some of you are too serious. I do this for everyone in the family. Happy birthday to me. Happy birthday to me! It’s my birthday, it’s my birthday, we going to party like it’s by birthday, drink Bacardi like it’s my birthday… Get the picture? But I do it for everyone in the family for their birthdays too. |
