I feel like I have lost all empathy and sympathy

When Democrats take back Congress, I'm ready for a policy that says Medicaid won't cover children who don't get their vaccinations or live in households with people who are unvaccinated. If your infant is hospitalized for whooping cough and you haven't vaccinated their older siblings -- you'll pay for that hospitalization out of your own pocket or the baby will die.

No..we cannot punish the innocent.

2016 shocked me but I got more involved in the community.

2020 (Covid) and changed my (naive?) view of people as being inherently caring and good to being inherently stupid and selfish.

2024 just confirmed it.

I live my life for my family and myself now. That's it.

Thank you. If everyone did this, we would
be okay.

I see natural disasters and instead of immediately thinking how I can help and how bad I feel for these people instead I think - well that sucks. Too bad there isn't FEMA to help you and most likely you voted for that.

When I see people whose health insurance premiums have been raised 100% I don't feel empathy I just think - well you should get a job that gives you good health insurance.

Basically I have become a Republican who thinks everyone should "pull themselves up by their bootstraps and figure it out themselves". I can't force any sympathy or empathy anymore for people who vote for this to happen to themselves. Its hard to think good Christian thoughts for people who are fake Christians.

i am Republican and any time I see natural disaster, I immediately find the ways to help people in need. When I see people who's health insurance have been raised, I only feel empathy for those who did not understood this when ACA was implemented. This was a recepie for disaster, everyone understood this that it will not be sustainable in a long run. Regardless, I am now helping to pay for health insurance for Ukrainian woman and her little girl. They are refugees from Ukraine and would not be able to afford it otherwise. Maybe you can find one person and help them instead? No one is seeking your sympathy or empathy. People who are in need seek actual help. Why not to help them?

My profoundly disabled child has gotten nothing from the government. Parties are irrelevant. The system - and the people who created it - are broken.

Because private charity is no substitute for a government that is by the people, FOR the people. I’d rather be dependent on my government than the whims of some smug Republican lady who doesn’t understand healthcare economics in 2025. You know you’re going to cut her off the second she disappoints you, and you get off on that.

But so much collateral damage to those who didn’t vote for any of this. Lots of sympathy for them.

That's where I am. I feel bad for those that got stuck in the collateral damage of other's stupid decisions, but it's getting harder and harder to feel sympathy for those that brought these situations on themselves. A family member and his wife are raging MAGAs. I don't mind people being Republican and have friends who are, but they were so far gone we stopped seeing them. She was a SAHM, he was a fed worker who lost his job. I didn't feel bad for him. I felt bad for the kids though.

+1 I hate feeling this way.....but yes for those who voted for this I have no empathy.

There are no Republicans. The party is gone. Treasonous snakes/ fake Christians and basically subhuman idiots. Anyone with a brain has left the party.

Zero empathy for MAGA
Zero empathy for anyone who voted for Trump.

I can not wait for them to be destroyed. The TDS crowd of MAGA cult deserves all the shit that is coming to them. And yes they have TDS, the definition of a cult is a derangement syndrome.

Unfortunately, some good people are going to get hit in the crossfire. That makes me sad.

All of this.

Truly curious as to what you mean? It seems like our very way of life is partisan…separation of church and state, income tax, healthcare, judicial process, cost of goods, education, women’s right to choice, environmental laws….these affect us everyday and are certainly being weighted in only one direction right now.

Now, I don’t walk up to anyone and ask their affiliation. I still host and go to gatherings with both R and Ds but all of the above weighs on your mind. How do you not. Would love some tips.

You're bragging about being MAGA to your core.

I can’t imagine feeling that way. That’s a sad outlook on life OP.
I’m gathering up our church donations for the women’s shelter today. I certainly have sympathy for those who need help, and try to do what I can to assist.

Bull! I seriously doubt your proclaimed former altruistic proclivities. Trump and his evil administration makes me want to do more to help those affected by his draconian edicts.

It helps that people outside of D.C. are less likely to view every thing through a political lense. Y'all need to log off of whatever doomer social media you are consuming (a problem that exists on the left and the right) and touch some grass.

What in the world are you talking about?

Project 2025 is a thing you are an idiot.

Women are going to lose all rights.
