I feel like I have lost all empathy and sympathy

We didn’t vote for this mess and both lost our jobs - 2 kids, big mortgage, chronic health problems, child with disability. It sucks. I’m too busy trying to figure out our lives to care about others right now. Merry Christmas!

But Democrat’s premiums are also rising.

But so much collateral damage to those who didn’t vote for any of this. Lots of sympathy for them.

+1 I don't even feel like donating any more. I don't want any of it to go to people who wanted this. I donate to animal related causes now.

I feel like I definitely have. So many people who take no personal responsibility. They'll buy fancy purses, fancy food, expensive cars, but when it comes time to buy their kids school supplies, Christmas presents, or food for the dinner table they plead poverty. Everyone else has to pay for needs.

You’re disgusting! People who didn’t vote for this are suffering too! You’d rather save animals than humans, including children, who obviously cannot vote

I really hope the people who are giving up on empathy realize that they are letting them win. We all need understanding and support, even if we’re misguided and financially irresponsible. I honestly suggest taking a break from the national news cycle (but support alternative sites like ProPublica and 404 Media) and do something physical with your local community.

I am well aware that the people using the food pantry where I volunteer probably for this mess, but they are elderly and generally kind to me in the moment. We have to extend our hearts to everyone, in the end. It’s tough, but it brings about a better world.

I wouldn't call the PP disgusting but their attitude definitely is.

Y'all are engaging in nihilism. It's weak, and you need to buck up. Ideally, the next couple elections repudiate the current BS and we pull out of this tailspin here. But if they don't, things are about to get worse, and trust me when I tell you that abandoning your humanity and deciding nothing matters is not going to help you survive it.

It's okay if your focus is more on immediate community, but you should be thinking about other people. Including, yes, people who voted for Trump or didn't vote at all. People do dumb stuff. Those individuals have far less culpability than Trump, people like Elon Musk, and powerful enablers in the GOP. If you punish the powerless individuals who made dumb choices at the voting booth out of spite, we will lose the opportunity to hold accountable the actual powerful people who are doing this. Is that what you want? To just lose the country to these oligarchs because you're so mad at some plumber in Tennessee for voting Trump that you cheer his death because he can no longer afford diabetes meds without healthcare subsidies? Or that you're okay with his daughter going without well child visits or glasses? Really?

Grow up.

I'm sorry but the delusion that voting will solve the world's issues and being mad at people who have zero power is very weird to me. You should be mad at billionaires, corrupt systems, unchecked money in politics and big donors shaping everything, the fact that there is no universal health care, the fact that so many Americans can barely afford to feed their children, that we could solve the climate change issue and world hunger but people in power prevent this from happening. Redirect your energy and you'll make a bigger impact on the betterment of the world.

PP on page one nailed it. I'm just tired of the stupidity. I don't think unhealthy, uneducated and desperate people make for a good society at all. Even if I were a billionaire with a bunker I wouldn't want that. They are still reliant on electricity, plumbing, internet, infrastructure, cars, planes, shipping, and on and on. They are being greedy and shortsighted to want a world where everything is crumbling or on fire and people want to kill them if they step out.

This.

Also consider that some of the people who voted for Trump did so out of spite for people like you -- people they perceive as "costal elites", people who went to expensive schools and make more money than they ever will doing what appear to be cushy jobs sitting at computers. Trump's campaign was all about exploiting the resentment and spitefulness that people have against people like us in order to gain power.

What does returning spite for spite do? If you think it was dumb for them to vote out of spite, don't you have the self awareness to see that you no longer even caring about the political values you usually vote on is equally stupid?

Let's not turn the country into the Hatfields and the McCoys. Let's storm the Bastille instead.

I've heard similar things like this in the past (only from right wingers) but have never seen this for myself. If this is happening it cannot be as common as you imagine.

Same.

When Democrats take back Congress, I'm ready for a policy that says Medicaid won't cover children who don't get their vaccinations or live in households with people who are unvaccinated. If your infant is hospitalized for whooping cough and you haven't vaccinated their older siblings -- you'll pay for that hospitalization out of your own pocket or the baby will die.

So sorry for your struggles.

Sending you a prayer / positive intentions for

- family’s health situation;
- your housing stability;
- new secure employment that you both like and will pay your bills; and
- for you to get through this very rough season with your dignity and soul intact.

I can understand why you need to focus completely on your own situation at the moment.

Best wishes

I assume that PP still pays taxes. And presumably votes Dem in favor of all the policies you mentioned.
