BC is not a "fall back" option for ND. Neither is Georgetown.

Uh, College of the Holy Cross in Massachusetts is Jesuit. |
Happened to my kid last year at Georgetown---way above the green in SCOIR, and they typically send lots of kids there each year. Kid was accepted RD, which I am sure your daughter will be. I think there is good bit of yield protecting where they think these kids are going to choose them no matter what so they can use the early rounds to pick up the kids that meet their institutional priorities, urm, first gen, etc., first. The schools I have seen doing this over the last few years end up losing these kids RD to Ivies and other T20s because it really upsets the kids to have wasted that early application. |
My DC was also deferred. So were all their friends. I am sure the pool was extremely competitive, and the standard top-grades excellent student profile was just not enough. My DC is also reevaluating. College admissions is a game, and don’t forget it. |
| BC is not on tier w/ ND |
There is also a Holy Cross College in Notre Dame, IN, which is run by the Holy Cross Brothers. https://www.hcc-nd.edu/about-holy-cross/ |
NP: Not just Jesuits, Catholics. Stop trying to divide the faith. Jesuits are not alone in this. |
BC is absolutely the fallback option. BC will start sending out letters soon if they haven’t already asking if RD applicants want to move to ED2 now that decisions for EA and ED have come out. That is prime ‘we are second tier’ behavior. |
Maybe it's not really true in today's world of competitive admissions, but for generations of Notre Dame students, BC stood for "Backup College." |
| Holy Cross is a great option for kids deferred by ND. HC has always been a top 25 SLAC and like Notre Dame has a fervent alumni base. Holy Cross has RD of Jan 15. |
| IMO, Boston College has never been on the same level of Notre Dame -not even close. Georgetown is a small step below ND but is more secular. Holy Cross(in Massachusetts) was always the third option for high achieving Catholic families perhaps a full step below ND but HC grads do exceptionally well. |
their acceptance rates are about three percentage points apart. Notre Dame is very slightly more competitive to get into. As far as being on tier, yes they are absolutely on tier. |
| ND and BC are not 3% points apart. ND is ranked 20th. Linkedin has it in top 20 too. BC is amazing but a back up option. |
|
Lol BC is consistently ranked in the 36-40 US News ND 18-20 range. ND highly successful grads while BC was a commuter school until the 1990s like DePaul. Nice try.

| As is anecdotally reflective, word out of South Bend is this round of REA was far more brutal than last year. |
