Adult son w good job came by asking for food

Why doesn't he just lease a Bentley or Porsche or Maserati? It'd be much cheaper. And with his leased Bentley, he could afford food.

Yes. This is so insane. Does he realize he can finance a car for $300 a month? Even with a limited credit history -- thats what I did when I was his age.

Apple doesn’t fall far from the tree here. Your son is an ER nurse and old enough to have a 14 YO (I think? Can’t tell from your post) and can’t figure this out? Doesn’t sound like the person I’d want taking care of me in an emergency…

Why did you feel the need to include that detail about your daughter’s car dying? Presumably she is not asking you for money.

He has a drug problem not an Uber problem. No one in their right mind spends $140/day on transportation to a job. Assuming he works 5 days a week that’s $720/week and $2880/month. Tell him to trade in the broken truck and buy a Kia or Hyundai.

The fact that you had that food on hand is another completely different issue but not subject of this post.

I thought a $15K sedan several years ago, put maybe $1,000 down and my car payment was under $200 a month. I currently drive a luxury brand SUV and my payment is $350. If he can afford thousands of dollars on uber, he could easily afford a car payment.

How much did you put down to pay $350/month? And I assume it’s a lease?

No one can live on $40,000 right now.

OP is most likely a MAGA stupid.

I just had my 2018 car totaled and after fighting with the insurance company it turns out you can buy a perfect condition of that car with only 40K miles for only $16K—and it was a really nice car that still had many years of life on it. So I feel like he could get a reliable used car for something in the 10-20K range which wojld make way more sense than all this uber costs. He most also live super far from his job so he could also look into other options there, more long term.

$10K. It was a used car and around $27K IIRC. Not a lease, five year loan.

Sure, if you have that money, or enough credit history to finance a used car. I remember being a young working person and not having either.

dp. They'll finance to anyone nowdays and just jack up the interest rate. But with the job OP says her kid has, I bet he could get something with an interest rate that makes sense—certainly a better deal than Ubering daily.

Had to read that OP a few times myself.

The vehicle, that he got from his dad (who is not dead and lives in a penthouse and travels) is 14 years old.

Thank you. I read it as “his 14 year old” jacked up the car LOL.

Anonymous wrote:Sorry, OP.

Don’t car rental places rent cars by the month? Or could he buy a beater to tide him over for a few months? I cannot imagine spending $140 for Uber every day.

Enterprise rents a month for $800.

^^and 5 days at $140/day is already $700. This makes no sense.

Or just Uber to a point where he can access mass transit. Or even moving into a nearby hotel with longterm rates for a month would be cheaper.

Op and her son are morons. The only smart one is the ex who seems to have removed himself from them and is living his best life.
