Students shouldn't have to choose between being stuck at an IB school, or transferring out of their neighborhood school to access a robust IB program. Put IB at 1, maybe 2 schools. If IB is as wonderful as these few people claim, parents will be jumping over each other to transfer their kids into the IB program. Make all high schools AP with a robust selection of classes. |

| What is MLL ? |
| Heck, keep IB if they want but offer a full AP program at all the schools and let kids choose what they want. You know that they won’t do that because most kids will take AP. |
| Eliminate AP at all schools and move to IB only. If we can only afford one, let’s do IB. |
Not even this school board is that stupid. |
Hahahaha |
The point is that a small number of people keep IB alive in this county. There is no requirement to have both and for many years FCPS operated successfully with just AP (at all high schools). Think of the transfers that will ensue if a bunch of people are switched from an AP high school to an IB high school or vice versa. Interesting, that happening might be enough for FCPS to come to its senses as they are deluged with transfer requests. Two-thirds of FCPS schools have AP; AP is less complicated (no HL vs. SL, college credit more straight forward); AP is less expensive than IB; the mere existence of both in FCPS strays from equity goals; if it was super great, Langley would have it. |
I can’t provide daily transportation. But thanks. Also-do parents actually transfer Falls Church? I’ve only heard parents saying they are asking for Madison or McLean transfers. Most of the people who don’t want Marshall aren’t going to go for Falls Church. |
Langley is great because Langley is rich. Really. School outcomes are tied to socioeconomic status more than anything else. You can argue that AP is better because of cost and logistics, but schools scores are not tied to whether they are AP or IB. It is parental education and income. |
Many schools (outside of FCPS) actually do provide both options. Kids can take a mix. In some cases, kids take APs in 9th and 10th and then IB in the last 2 years to get the diploma. |

FCPS has to charge parents more $$ for the IB program in part because they just paid out what is probably several hundred thousand dollars in lawyers’ fees after FCPS policy victimized and traumatized a teen schoolgirl:

My IB diploma grad earned 18 credits at a state flagship. I was very impressed by the program and quality of the teachers. Another Robinson parent. |
It teaches critical thinking. That is what is sorely missing in today’s society. |
