We are looking at the question will ivy brand and connections be worth more over a lifetime than the nearly $200k that will be saved over 4 years at lesser school. DC is pretty laid back, so probably equally happy at either. Econ major at ivy vs business major at other school, which really does place well with their grads. So trying to boil it down to is the ivy name and experience worth the full price tag

Which ivy? And what other school? Hard to answer without that info.

Ivy is HYP - not giving other school or sport sorry

Ask your DC what they want to do? We have told our DD that she has X amount of money for her and she can use it for college, grad school or both. She would like to use it for both. She is considering T25-50 with merit for college and grad school. With Econ or business major, your DC is likely to go to grad school, right?

Does it matter? What 25-50 would you take over HYP even with the scholarship? Would anyone take in-state UVA over HYP?

My child would pick in-state UVA over HYP to use her 529 fund for grad school. She wants to go to MBA or law school.

Anonymous wrote:It depends on the Ivy and the other school. I’d pick the Ivy only if Harvard, Yale or Princeton. Otherwise there isn’t $200,000 more in prestige than a T50, especially one with a strong undergrad business school.

Ha. Tell me you know nothing.

My kid already has had 2 internships and one lined up this summer that is parlaying into a job. The non-HYP Ivy was very much worth it.

My kid has grad school paid for coming from the Ivy. It’s common for Ivy grads.

That 200K can be wiped out in one year's bonus once you get to a particular place in your career. I'm very jealous that I went to public schools and my husband went ivy and top 3 B-school. However, I outearn him; always have. He thinks that with his education, I would have gone even further and I'm pretty darn happy where I landed.

Tough decision OP. But a good one to have.

Of it's the P, they have to go. I LOVE that campus. I told my kids one of them has to go to P. I don't care which or what they study.

OP, come back once your kid has actually gotten in to the HYP school. Until then this is just masturbatory and a waste of time.

If he’s applied ED there’s a great chance he will not get accepted because if he’s trying out for Club- it means he’s not a “coach-supported” admit. He will get no preference in admissions and those schools have 3-5% acceptance rates. Plenty of non-recruited athletic perfect star kids get rejected all of the time.

What type of grad school ? Sorry, but I find your statement difficult to believe.

If the OP's situation is real, then the other school may be in the Patriot League (think Lehigh or Bucknell).

OP may be able to afford the Ivy League school, but it will cause some financial difficulty. This is why OP is trying to justify a school ranked #25 to #50 over Harvard, Yale, and Princeton.

Beginning to doubt the authenticity of OP's purported situation because I cannot imagine one who would make such an important decision with advice based on such glaringly incomplete information.

Op is full of sh@t since HYP don’t have ED. They have SCEA which is not binding.

I think that’s the general consensus after years of following DCUM P is considered the only “must-attend” of the 3
