| Choose Philanthropist fromteh common app drop down menu: A philanthropist is a person who promotes the welfare of others, typically by donating money, time, or effort to charitable causes. While the term is often associated with wealthy individuals, anyone can be a philanthropist by contributing resources to help people, such as volunteering, giving money, or sharing skills. |
Is it extremely insulting? I have a degree too, but it would be wrong and false to list myself as "Political Scientist" when asked for my occupation because that's not actually what I do for a living. The question is about your current job, not your educational background. |
Having a degree doesn't make something your occupation. Do you do paid work outside the house? If not, then homemaker. It's fine, but own it, as someone else said. |
"Student of pilates," "amateur chef," etc. |
Are you earning moeny as a "Homemaker"? No? Then it isn't asking about a job you make money doing. |
It does when it is a profession. It says "Occupatoin/Profession" -- not are you maing moeny at it right now. How about the writer whose novel hasn't made a dime yet and who hasn't started a new project yet? Are they not a writer? |
So if homemaker is a respectable occupation/profession, then why are you kicking up a fuss about using the label? |
Homemaker sounds way better than washed out lawyer that couldn't cut it. |
| When you're done debating the pros and cons of your kid listing "homemaker" on his or her Common App, can you get back in the kitchen and make me a sammich? Thanks in advance. |
| I worked harder as a full-time homemaker than I did at any of my lawyer jobs. I feel fortunate and grateful that I had that choice and am not at all apologetic for being a homemaker. No one should be. |
