On common app, has anyone marked "homemaker" for the profession/job for a parent who isn't working? Does it matter how it's perceived? I don't want to be make up some job that I don't have, like consultant, self-employed, etc. And I don't have any issues with "homemaker" but wondering if there is anything we should consider here... now is not the time for me to be rethinking all my life choices, so please no bashing stay at home moms. I do have a college and law degree, if that matters.

| It doesn't matter. You can put homemaker or whatever your job was pre kids. No one is judging either way. |
| Just leave it blank. |
|
Do you put any occupation on your taxes? Homemaker?
Blank or align it with your taxes. I do not think it will matter. |
| Ok, thank you. Let me check if we can leave it blank. Some of those boxes have an asterisk and are required. I'll check our taxes. |
| I put homemaker. I don’t think it matters at all. It’s quite common. |
I’m pretty sure it’s not required. I’m unemployed currently and when I proofread the PDF of the first app my kid sent out, I didn’t see my spouse’s occupation anywhere on there. |
| I would not want to describe myself that way (I don't think I'd mind SAHM) but I don't think it's an issue from a perceptual standpoint. It's just an unfortunate old-fashioned word that makes you sound like you're wearing an apron and have your hair in curlers. |
| I have no clue what my husband wrote and I don't care. |
| I don't put an occupation anywhere. Doctor forms, etc. As long as I pay up why should they care. |
| Post some instagram videos and call yourself an influencer. |
Your husband filled out the common app? |
OK but is it still extremely insulting it’s even on there! I mean, I have a degree, I EARNED my degree !!! |
+1 I’m not publicly judging you - but I silently do in my head. |
Something like this was discussed during current Common App season https://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/1297572.page |
