You sound…not lovely. I have 3 water bottles I bought at Costco 8 years ago. I play tennis, pickleball and golf—I need water. It’s not a crime. |
Filtered through. |
What? Before the early 2000s, people didn’t have a constant need to drink all day long. It wasn’t that they were chronically dehydrated and they definitely weren’t walking around drinking soda as a substitute all the time. We drank water during meals, an occasional glass of water/milk at home outside of meals, and a cup of coffee at work in the am. |
I had my first kid in 2001 and started guzzling water then. Breastfeeding made me so thirty and I never stopped. I actually think people WERE chronically dehydrated and didn’t know it. |
| Dumbest thread ever but comments are quite entertaining. Water bottles not my pet peeve but gum chewers 100 times more annoying |
| I don't guzzle water or drink a ton, but I do want it immediately available when I feel thirsty. |
You think for thousands of years people were chronically dehydrated? And that citizens of every other country but the US are still chronically dehydrated? Yet, civilization has managed to always make it to adulthood and often old age being chronically dehydrated? |
+1 I always have water with me when I'm traveling / being a tourist but not for day to day errands at home. Because I'm not out for the whole day in the same way |
No. Old people start to lose essential senses, such as thirst, or taste, and drink less as they age. It's well-known phenomenon. Normal adults don't need to drink all day, and during her previous decades, she was fine. There is no such thing as a normal "continual thirst", OP. What you have is a habit; also possibly anxiety, which makes people form such habits; and finally perhaps you eat too salty. |
American women have way larger environmental footprints than women from other oecd countries This cannot be the reason |

Honestly I think it's because we're always trying our hardest to lose weight or be as skinny as possible and we were told that drinking lots of water helped with that. Not only for the hydration part, but also because it covers the oral fixation thing so you don't grab a piece of candy and it keeps you fuller so you eat and snack less.
I don't think too many people will admit it (hence being 5 pages in and this only being touched on vaguely), but I think no matter how much body acceptance people fake most women are constantly battling their weight demons. |
I think you’re right. Drinking more water to fill up your stomach is huge dieting recommendation. Just like the saying, if you’re hungry drink water. You’re probably dehydrated 🙄 |
I went through all 5 pages of posts and it was difficult to figure out which was the most ridiculous to respond to. I am a huge water drinker and I feel terrible on days I skip. I love water and you’ll pry my bottle from my cold dead hands. But like all things DCUM this is a competition, I guess. You win! You are better than me. But you are bothered by something that does not affect you in the least. So in reality, you are the big time loser. |
Wow. I didn’t realize guzzling water could be addictive! Guess you really can be addicted to anything. |
You've convinced me! I am giving up water. It's just not worth it. |
