Yeah we bought a ton of disposable water bottles in Japan, which I hated. Then again, if I'd been carting around a reusable I'm not sure where I would have filled up. But I'm not going to be ridiculously thirsty or dehydrate myself just because I won't buy plastic water bottles. |
Has anyone claimed that hydration prevents obesity? |
Interesting. You make a good point. |
| I don’t see this with women. To me it’s a generational thing. Younger people under 30 hydrate which is a good thing. |
| Are we upset that women are drinking water now? |
Only younger people use that word in this way also.

| It’s not just tourists in Europe, everyone drinks water these days! My kids all bring water bottles to school and have since pre-K. I remember being a kid and being so thirsty after PE, and we’d line up and every kid would get like 5 seconds at the water fountain. I didn’t travel around Europe back in the 90s, but I have recently and definitely keep a water bottle in my purse. I don’t want to have to buy an expensive plastic bottle multiple times a day when my DH or I are thirsy! |

Maybe the 5G and 6G are increasing everyone's thirst.
Maybe we are becoming lizard people who must stay hydrated more than mammals. This is like the Simpson's episode about reverse-vampires and the Rand Corporation, only not. |
Those b words! And as a PP pointed out, they're fat, too! |
This is DCUM! They always need to be upset about something. |

The answer is: because UMC people no longer sip soda as they did in the past. Soda machines used to be everywhere. Cans of soda were cheap and machines were plentiful. Now we are anti-sugar and drink water instead.
Also, because public infrastructure has crumbled and maintenance of public water fountains, if they exist at all, is sketchy. We are more germ-aware than ever before. Even if you can find a decent water fountain many people don't want to drink from it. Also, we have extended fitness culture into popular culture--water bottles are like leggings--once seen only in the gym they have migrated everywhere. Also, it might not just be water in the bottle. I sneak wine into places you wouldn't normally find it. |
This. It's easier to drink water than it is to eat healthy and exercise. "Look hubs, I'm drinking water to keep my figure." Uh. OK. |
Yes it's so ridiculous. It's not like they're any healthier doing that. But then I'm French, what do I know. It's a special "American" thing The water must be different, simply by virtue of being held in American hands!!!

We are. Keep up. Pretty sure the next stage is - American women and breathing air? Why? |
| I do this and I’m not sorry. Water is good for you. I also prefer cold water. This is one thing America does much better than Europe. |
