| OP, none of the numbers provided so far are likely to help you. You should call Legal Services of Northern Virginia at 703-778-6800. They assist low income applicants in Arlington, Alexandria, Fairfax, Loudon and Prince William Counties and there is no fee for their service. My job requires me to deal with this organization reguarly. There are no local clinics that I am aware of that handle these types of cases either for free of allow you to pay on a sliding scale, but they may be out there. It is unlikely that an attorney will be appointed for you in this type of case so I strongly advise you to seek counsel prior to the hearing. You may also contact the lawyer referral service of the bar association in the jurisdiction where your case is pending. I also advise you to stop posting details of this case on the internet. It is one thing to solicit suggestions and another to vent your frustrations when there could be legal consequences. Best of luck to you and your child!! |

PP thnks for the help..
I called that number I am on hold but the message says they only help with civil matters mine is listed as crimminal do you know who I cacall for that? I am hoping they can advice me s to who to call. |
I said IF the judge issues a bench warrant. That is standard procedure if she fails to appear for a show cause. Even the biggest softies of the bench will do this. A show cause is an order, signed by a judge, directing you to appear before him or her. Fail to do so at great peril. Get a grip? Really? Great perspective. Glad you're not my lawyer. |

OP,
Call that number and ask for advice since it's a family matter to confirm what the Legal Aid folks said. PP: Sorry, I misread your post and I may have been taking out frustrations about other posters on you. Please forgive! Also, I'm glad I'm not your lawyer too, since I'm not a lawyer! That would be trouble! |
| This is the 13:42 poster. OP, at this point you may have already spoken with someone at Legal Services. If not, I just want to let you know that they can advise you on the show cause summons because it is based on a civil matter. Also, you may be on hold for a while, but push through it. Someone is definitely on the other end. GL |
| OP, even if you choose not to update us on the details, can you let us know when you're okay? Some of us are pulling for you! It sounds like you're really struggling to do what's best for your child. God bless you and good luck. |
You are so very forgiven. I understand that this could be a very emotional thing for many of the posters here. I'm just stating a detached legal fact. I wish there could be more forgiveness for emotional outbursts around here, but boy-o that is not the trend.

Hi PP yes, more mea culpas and forgiveness would go far here and everywhere for that matter. I feel for OP as a single mom myself, and was vexed by some of the comments. That combined with my tendency to speed read comments got the best of me.
OP, please update us when you can. |

I will update when I can ....
Im doing the best I can with the legal aid/public defender information. while Im vexed with some of the ocmments I expected it here really Im glad to know I have support even if it is just strangers |
