If kids go to Catholic, is family expected to attend mass on Sundays?

How do they check whether you “attend mass.”

Some churches have installed face recognition systems to track attendance and engagement. Do they have any photos of you or your child?

Why would you lie to use it then? Just pay the non-parishioner rate and be an honest person.

So what are the rules exactly for the parishioner rate? I must attend mass? How often? Can I miss any? How many? For what reasons? Is it just the parents who have to go, or the children too? Even if sick? Does virtual count? What if I’m a bit late or leave early — what percentage of the mass must I attend for it to count? How do they verify all this?

Lots of money on the line here, so we need specific transparent rules (that you’re making up).

Ask your church, troll.

You don’t need rules. You obviously need some community that you value to be part of. DCUM Anti-Catholic Trolls doesn’t count.

Any community that I would want to be part of wouldn’t be made up of nosey, holier-than-thou, judgmental freaks who monitor whether I attend mass “enough” or not, in order to “qualify” for a special tuition discount.

My community recognizes that everyone has different circumstances and situations and isn’t full of Mass Karens.

Worry about yourself, rather than where I am on Sunday mornings, weirdo.

Parents who receive the Catholic rate for tuition are already receiving a tuition discount. In our school the real cost to educate one child is significantly higher than the tuition rate I am being charged so I am already receiving tuition assistance. The assumption is that I am also supporting my parish in some way. There is not a group of people who determine how much money is necessary to get that discount. In fact, I could submit an empty envelope and it would be okay. The emphasis is that I am attending church. It doesn't even have to be every week, although that would be nice. Families who are not Catholic pay the actual cost to educate their child as it is assumed they aren't attending our parish and not financially supporting the parish. How often you attend Mass is between you and God. No one actually cares about what you do as they have enough to take care of with their own families. Get over this Catholic bashing stuff. If you have problems with the Catholic faith then work it out on your own. I've heard enough of that vitriol to last a lifetime.

So you have a church community? Is it Catholic? If so, why are you asking about Mass attendance? Can’t you ask your parish? If your parish isn’t concerned about attendance, why are you concerned about those that are? If you aren’t Catholic, why does this matter so much to you?

This is the attitude many are against. The Catholic parishes support the families in the parish and to a lesser extent Catholic families outside the parish. The reasons for this are 1) to support the young families in their community, and 2) because the finances for the school and church roll up into the same account. These two reasons (and others may come up with more), are tied together.
I welcome anyone who will be respectful to Catholic teachings to Catholic schools. Everyone knows there are a subset of people who enroll b/c it is (more) affordable than some secular options.
I know many people who don’t attend Mass every week, many who don’t attend at all and for the vast majority, I have no idea. I also don’t know who receives parish support nor should I.
But I don’t understand being comfortable with taking something that doesn’t belong to you.

Our Catholic school specifies that you must be an active member of the parish and also give at least X amount per year. That amount is way less than the difference between non-parishioner and parishioner rates.

Would you be ok with a non-Catholic family attending parish mass one Sunday a month or during holidays? Kids attend the parish school as non-parishioners.

I’m afraid I’d get the vibe like “Why are you here?”

In my head:

“Oh are you new?? Welcome!”

“Thank you! Yes, Larla and Larlo here attend the school.”

“Wonderful!”

*During mass we conspicuously don’t take communion since we aren’t Catholic*

“So are you interesting in joining the parish?!”

“Ummmm we are actually Protestant.”

Not all Catholics receive communion at every Mass - you're supposed to be in a state of grace to receive communion. That said, if you don't go up to receive, nobody is going to be looking at you side-eyed, trying to figure out what you might have done to not be in a state of grace. The most conservative Catholics would be very pleased that you came to Mass and that you respected the Eucharist by not receiving communion when you are not a Catholic.

What a shock that you're not actually Catholic or have a kid in a parochial school. Obvious trolls are obvious.

Again, you wouldn't need to ask this question if you have ever even been to mass because they almost always welcome visitors each and every time. Why don't you see for yourself instead of coming across as an uninformed ignoramus?
