AND YES IM SCREAMING BECAUSE THAT IS HOW STRONGLY I FEEL

They are highly trainable, loyal, affectionate, fun to do things with outside- they’ll hop in the water, take long hikes, they love the snow- and aside from some shedding, their coats are very easy to care for

lol at “some shedding.” They are indeed amazing dogs. But the shedding is crazy!

Field goldens shed significantly less

What is a field golden? Golden retrievers bred for hunting/working conditions instead of showing?

Yes golden retrievers bred for hunting/spots vs show/conformation/therapy.
They are generally smaller, darker in color, have much thinner undercoat (read less shedding). However, they're also more energetic dogs, some also say smarter, more independent and driven.
Do not get one if you're not ready for the working dog level of energy.

Not the PP but yes. They're also smaller and have a more lithe build. I think they also have avoided the cancer curse better since they're not overbred. Generally more red in color but not always.

Boxers are so hilarious and sweet. I’m surprised they aren’t more popular.

Love my chihuahuas and chi mixes.

Mixed breed with a clear history of being well adjusted and properly socialized. They will have fewer health issues and better temperament than any random pure bred dog.

We have a mix that's part lab, german shepard, great pyrenees, and coon hound, plus a few more. She looks like a pointer and is the absolute sweetest dog ever. I'm definitely on team mutt.

This is a good suggestion. Also, cockapoo.

This is the answer. Not just my opinion. They've been voted #1 breed for many, many years until recently.

I'm more partial to Goldens, but Labs are definitely in my top 3. Basically cousins.

+1 My Havanese seems like the best dog, but I don’t know any other Havanese. She is playful, limited energy, mostly interested in being petted, sensitive to other dogs’ needs on walks (never barks) and she is 12 pounds. The non-shedding part is amazing. The grooming part is a pain, but she acts like a living stuffed animal. She is also incredibly patient and tolerant (think brushing fur, brushing teeth, attention from small children, being barked by other dogs - she doesn’t bark back). All love. I’m a bit obsessed. Years ago, I had a little neurotic terrier - so I really appreciate how lowkey this dog is. I’m not sure if we can ever get another dog. 🙂

Maltese. Sweet, loving, portable, don’t shed. Poodle would have been #2. I dislike doodles because they are too hyper and always smell.

I cant be around shedding dogs long enough to like them. My in-laws have the sweetest King Charles spaniel but my eyes water and I can’t stop sneezing.

I'm team mutt for my next dog, but I still will be looking for some of the traits from breeds mixed in - shepherd/heeler/border collie/aussie/retriever/maybe pit. I'll most likely will stay away from hounds/huskies if I can help it.
I also planning to test drive personality by fostering, I'm picky after going through 30+ mutts as a foster.
