I mean…this is expected. Also, he could have retired years ago and could quit tomorrow and likely not change his lifestyle one bit. This is just a choice. |
| Most people don’t gave enough to pay basic expenses so it shouldn’t be surprising that they don’t have money for vacations. |
Why not take a vacation during the kids winter, spring or summer breaks? Crazy to wait until college! |
| The PP means people are using their vacation days to deal with life- sick kids, random days off school, etc. |
| I'm a teacher. I can only take a vacation during the summer, and everything is super expensive or just too hot to be fun. Plus, my kid has sports stuff going on and school sometimes in summer, so it's pretty tough to plan anything. Every couple of years we manage a couple of days at a beach, but honestly I'm too tired from working to want to deal with all the planning and packing and traveling. So no, we don't really take vacations. |
Because everything is literally four times as expensive exactly during those times. |
Teacher here. The only time I’ll be able to afford a vacation is 8 yrs from now once my kid grad from college. |
|
I find I only really relax and "leave work" is if my vacation is at least a week if not more. It takes me a couple days to settle down and decompress from my stressful job.
Adjusting vacations around kids' school calendar just sucks. Spring break and Winter Break are the most expensive and crowded times to travel.

PP. My father sees it as a lifetime opportunity to take care of his parents, my mother's parents, and brothers and sisters on both sides of the family. He is willing to sacrifice himself, so that everyone close to him can have generational wealth. That's why my mother loves and respects him so much, because of his selflessness. |
| I usually only took 2 weeks a year but had flexibility for appointments and kid stuff. Kids were busy in sports so it was hard to schedule, plus expensive. Still it wasn’t much and I somewhat regret not taking more now that the kids are grown. |
Yes! Also a teacher with three kids. I do the double shift all year. Staying at home with more time to manage things (and I do use summer childcare!) is a vacation. |
Yep. I have health insurance and still had to pay over $500 in June to a doctor. Oh and I just got my dentist bill after they submitted to dental insurance and I owe $94. |
Not just CEOs but as low down as director level as well (and onto VPs, SVPs, etc). |
| I get 5 days of pto and 12 days of sick leave. So no, I don’t take vacations |
This. It's been much better not working in academe so I can actually afford to take a vacation at non school break times when it's cheaper. |
