| Very surprising so many CMU advocates here. Probably just SLAC ignorance. Definitely W&L — not even close. You will be all set with their alumni network, OP. Amongst the 3 schools, it’s W&L>Colgate (both very good networks but W&L has better traditional business offerings) > CMU. |
Aiming upward would be a complete waste of time. Patriot League is a lowest competition D1 except in certain non-revenue sports (e.g., Lehigh is usually top 20 in wrestling). So, it's compete for athletes against other Patriot Leagues and the Fordhams of the world. Guess what...Colgate will always lose say 5%-10% of their athletic recruits to high academic D3s...could be that Williams or CMU or JHU or Chicago offers better need-based aid in a sport where there isn't much scholarship money (or more accurately, zero scholarship money)...it won't be their top recruits, but somebody has to be in the bottom 10% of a recruiting class. |
+1 Washington and Lee isn't very popular on DCUM because of its strong Greek system, the fact that this has actual Republicans on its campus (I think most W&L students skew liberal these days though), and has a southern feel. If you are looking for feedback re W&L I would try to find it elsewhere. My husband was a business major at W&L. He breezed through his MBA program because he said it was mostly a review of the material that he had already learned at W&L. All of his college friends are extremely sucessful (lots of CEOs). |
This is an example of typical SLAC arrogance. Any full pay, or near full pay, student/family who would select W&L over Colgate is probably enamored with Robert E. Lee and the Confederacy; it's definitely not due to academics. CMU is far superior academically to both W&L and Colgate that the reason for one to matriculate at one of the LACs is not because of academics--unless seeking less demanding academics (which is fine in my view). |
| Reading the previous poster’s comparison of CMU and W&M, one could literally replace W&M with W&L, and the comparison would still hold true for the most part. Brain fart or not, CMU’s academics, business program, prestige, reputation, global recognition and network are all still far superior. |
Well, it is a better overall school than W&L, better for business recruiting, and has a strong brand, but if those things don't matter, yeah W&L is "not even close." Go enjoy being in the middle of nowhere, I guess... |
Yeah...being named after a Confederate general tends to do that... |
I thought it was named after Bruce Lee? |
…and Denzel |
