Trolling? Just call MoCo health department for yourself. Or whatever county you’re in. Verify that what your pool is doing is actually safe. |
One angry person on here trying to impose their will on other people.
Just because they have a belief about how practices should be guarded doesn’t mean that is the requirement. |
We swim at another area pool and I do not like going to swim meets at Belair for that reason. The dive end seems very shallow. We swim them for B meets and usually I have my child skip that meet because I am paranoid. There hasn't been an incident that I know of before this, but now I will definitely not be going back. |
The health department disagrees with you. |
And the county code disagrees with you. http://montgomeryco-md.elaws.us/code/co_ptii_ch51_sec51-10 |
Then why is the health department enforcing a different set of rules at multiple pools? You’re not making sense. Call them to your pool and then come back to tell us what they say. |
“Whenever any person is in the water, a lifeguard must: (A) be on the deck and observing the pool; and (B) not leave the deck for any reason unless all persons are out of the water. (3) The approving authority may require additional lifeguards to be on the deck at any public swimming pool if the approving authority finds that the pool is inadequately guarded because of the: (A) number of persons using the pool; (B) shape, dimensions, or layout of the pool; (C) existence of obstructions to vision; or (D) capabilities of the persons using the pool.“ This is exactly what the health department is enforcing. #3 shows they can change the requirements for your specific pool for multiple reasons. A and B demonstrate how a coach with lifeguard certification cannot meet these requirements. They are often looking away from the pool to the clock, their workout board, swimmers coming to chat, parents with questions , etc. And how often are they walking away from the pool to grab kick boards, a bite of their breakfast and the like. |
