If you have swim team practices when the pool is closed to members, does your pool have lifeguards out?
We seem to always require a lifeguard during swim meets but I’ve never seen one in a chair during our morning practices in over 5 years. MCSL does not have requirements for coaches to be life guard or CPR certified or to even be background checked. Even when my kid swam with RMSC I remember a lifeguard being in the chair. |
Yes, always. The coaches should be certified but there should be someone in the chair. Some of the teens may be certified too. |
Yes, lifeguards are present whenever anyone is in the water. |
Wow! So is our pool violated a county requirement or is our pool just cheap? |
They are, but they say they aren’t “insured” to do any life saving things until their pool opens to members as that’s when their insurance starts. They are on the ground for the last 2 hours of morning practice, but not in chairs. They are picking up trash, vacuuming the pool, cleaning bathrooms or hiding out on their phone. |
Always have a lifeguard but just one |
The coaches are all certified lifeguards and pool operators. |
Find a new pool. That is crazy and dangerous. Sounds like a lie too. |
Not all, our old pool the coach was not. Some of the teens were. They always had a lifeguard except when the teens swam and there were a few lifeguards and parents there. I was not thrilled with that so I wouldn’t let my kid lifeguard there. |
We require coaches to be certified and don’t have a separate guard. There are 4+ certified coaches at any practice. |
