Very nervous about taking a statin, please educate me

Anonymous
Have been taking statins for more than 20 years because my endocrinologist recommends them for all type 1 diabetics (and I have heart disease in family history to boot). Never had any side effects. I'm on the lowest possible dose of the one I'm on, 5 mg daily of Crestor, and my cholesterol tests are always great.

I’m afraid to take one. I’ve read that cholesterol is being wrongly vilified. I’ve also read that statins are a big pharma scam. Please share your knowledge. Would you take them?

Don't take it. Work on your diet, go vegan for a while, and step up your exercise. Start with the diet and then add on to the exercise week by week.

That sounds like the nuttiest thing I’ve ever heard.

Why nutty? Eating less and losing weight make perfect sense for improving triglycerides assuming PP had a BMI that indicated a need for weight loss, likely with fewer side effects.
My elderly mom was on statins and had lots of sleep disturbances including sleepwalking that resulted in falls with head injuries. We just stopped them...she only had a borderline need anyway.

So don't take a statin. Your life.
