Rising Junior no extracurriculars

The kids I know who were like this went to UVA. They still had some activities though like band or orchestra.

Having a time consuming activity like band or orchestra is exactly not OP. UVA kids have activities.
I think it’s fine not to have ECs- she will of course get into college. Just had to say that I’m not sure UVA is the example to use here.

Maybe I should have said not impressive extracurriculars. There are many levels of band and orchestra. I have a kid who is in band and it is a class at school. He doesn’t even practice an hour per week. They have two concerts per year.

The kids I’m thinking of have the stats (4.5 gpa 1500 SAT) and not stand out activities. They do have some activities.

This is not correct. There is a long personal statement required for all UCAS applications. Some UK admissions people only use it as a tie breaker for heavily over-subscribed STEM applications, but Oxford openly states they use it as a starting point for their interviews.

You really should not post such ill informed nonsense.

Keep going with the art. Find her a weekend art program. Give her space in the basement.

If so, consider entering the Scholastic contest. https://www.artandwriting.org/ If she's up to it, she might put together enough stuff to attend National Portfolio Day. https://nationalportfolioday.org/ (I know she isn't interested in arts schools, but it might give her some good feedback about which if any of her drawings, etc. are good. )

Also take a look at the arts supplement pages of some college admissions offices. I think the Common App has a place to do one.Do not submit one unless her stuff really is good--which is why attending something like National Portfolio Day can help you figure out if is good.

Also enter some local art contests.

She's got some time, so if it's a sincere interest, have her take an art course at a local arts school. She's got time to do it next summer. If she's good, that can help her put together a portfolio or arts supplement and/or get a LOR from someone who can vouch that her stuff is good.

These are good but I’m thinking about what the OP said about how much time her DD spends on social media, and whether that could be maybe nuanced into an EC?

Does she have any interest in being an influencer, OP?
