| Maryland based DC is a 4.0 student adding AP classes next year but has no extracurriculars. We have tried pretty much everything and nothing has stuck. She plans to apply to NHS next year. I know that will come with some volunteer time which she doesn't mind. Will it make that big of a difference to do something just for the sake of applications at this point? What kind of college selectivity should she aim for with this profile as it is? |
| What does she do for fun? |
She will be viewed as unmotivated kid. Will it make a big difference? Depends on her stats/qualifications and which school she wants to attend. |
| Why not a part time job at a fast food chain? Will show resilience and character. |

This describes my 2 kids exactly. It’s fine, OP.
or rather, your daughter will be fine. I wouldn’t worry about her. |
When you said no EC, you meant no EC that stands out? Or no EC no EC? Varsity? School club? Editor? None? |
| Just make some up. They don't call and verify. |
| She ain’t getting into Harvard, but she’ll be fine if she backs up the 4.0 with solid classes and test scores. |

My friend’s daughter is like this. She is very smart with no extracurricular activities. Her mom made her do a few at school and she quit them sophomore year. It is like the mom forcing her kid to play soccer in elementary except it doesn’t work in high school.
The kids I know who were like this went to UVA. They still had some activities though like band or orchestra. |
Just no. She should find a school that’s the right fit for her. What is she doing when she’s not in school? |
Lol ok. Why does every post on the college forum have to devolve into UVA bashing? |
| She will still get into a great university. Dont sweat it, op. |
Mostly spending time on social media. |
| She will be fine if she applies T50-100 range. The lower ranked schools won’t care as much about ECs especially large publics. |

If she's a 4.0 student like you say then presumably she's in things like Soanish HonorSociety (or the like), no?
Can't she take on a leadership role in the varioys Honor Society clubs? Any chance she's a bit depressed or struggles with social anxiety? Shes a rising Senior and throughout the last 3 years she hasn't "stuck" (your words) with a club, sport, or otherwise involved with school? |
