Breaking: Southern Baptists Endorse Effort to Overturn Same-Sex Marriage

Anonymous
The Christian nationalist evangelicals have such a problem with homosexuality because there are so many closeted gays in their ranks.

They hate what they can't have or be. Facts.

Let people marry who they want to marry under contractual law so they can have the benefits. Let people love who they want to love and hate who they want to hate.

Leave the judging of the moral acts and "sins" of the world to God, and each person's understanding of God. Leave the governance of our administration's resources in this country and the protection of our civil liberties to government.

Why don't more people object with an argument that this is NOT a separation of church and state?

Look there is no Christian denomination that supports gay marriage, just go be another religion. Same with Islam they don't support it either. What's the shock here

Every mainline Protestant denomination is fine with gay marriage. It’s the Christian nationalist evangelical weirdos who have a problem with it and also want their religious rules to have dominion over our government. They should go be another country.

Mainline denominations have decreased over the years relative to the hardline denominations as educated and moderate people have stopped going to church, leaving Christianity increasingly dominated by hardliners.

Take this seriously. They made the systematic effort to overturn Roe v. Wade and they succeeded. They're using the same playbook to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges.

After gay marriage, interracial marriages will be next.

Christian white nation is their goal.

Yep. This is what they want to establish:

My dad went no-contact with a lot of his family when he had suspicions that I was gay in order to protect me. Why? Because two of my older cousins had committed suicide from the emotional and religious abuse they suffered from their family members for being gay.

My one cousin's headstone says Born to Jesus 1980 - Taken to the Devil 1997, so that should tell you just how terrible they are.

Evangelical Christians are the American Equivalent of the Taliban. I suggest everyone do everything (legally) in your power to oppose them before they do to the US what the Taliban has done to Afghanistan.

Trump was the one who negotiated ONLY with the Taliban and not the government in Afghanistan. Trump literally gave them the country and signed a treaty with them, not Biden. That is because these MAGA/Project 2025/Christian Evangelicals want to set up a Christian Taliban in the US.

You say that like it’s a bad thing. But the people of the world are voting with their feet. The problem is we don’t have enough such nations to meet demand. Kind of like “good” schools.

Ask women if they’re on board with living that way. I’m a woman who doesn’t want to live that way nor do I have any interest in going to church.

Most religions were established to police society thousands of years ago. People mistakenly viewed homosexuality as immoral and a danger to society and therefore homosexuality was targeted by the founders of religion as something that their God wouldn't approve of.

Our society is now policed by police. We no longer need hate filled religious beliefs to police society.

Except that you’re incorrect. I know an Episcopalian pastor who is a married lesbian.

You are wrong and ignorant, PP. Easily fact checked.

Several Christian denominations support gay marriage. These include:

- Episcopal Church (United States): Officially supports same-sex marriage, allowing clergy to perform and bless these unions since 2015.
- Presbyterian Church (USA): Permits same-sex marriages, with clergy able to officiate since 2014, following a change in its constitution.
- Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA): Supports same-sex marriage, allowing pastors to officiate since 2009, with formal rites adopted later.
- United Church of Christ (UCC): Endorsed same-sex marriage in 2005, encouraging clergy to officiate and advocate for legal recognition.
- Metropolitan Community Church (MCC): Founded with a focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion, it has performed same-sex marriages since its inception in 1968.
- Quakers (some branches): Certain Quaker meetings, particularly in liberal regions like the U.S. and U.K., support and celebrate same-sex marriages.
- Unitarian Universalist Association: While not exclusively Christian, many congregations include Christian members and fully support same-sex marriage.

You're confusing institutional drift with biblical Christianity. Just because a group calls itself a church or denomination doesn’t mean it’s truly Christian in the historic, biblical sense. The real question is whether it aligns with Scripture — and for the groups you listed, the answer is no.

Let’s be clear: the real, mainstream branches of Christianity — the ones that represent the overwhelming majority of Christians worldwide — all affirm that marriage is between one man and one woman. This has never been controversial in biblical Christianity. These include:

  • Roman Catholic Church

  • Eastern Orthodox Church

  • Southern Baptist Convention (SBC)

  • Presbyterian Church in America (PCA)

  • Lutheran Church–Missouri Synod (LCMS)

  • Anglican Church in North America (ACNA)

  • Global Methodist Church (GMC)

  • Evangelical churches like Assemblies of God, Calvary Chapel, Evangelical Free, etc.

  • All of these churches reject same-sex marriage based on clear, consistent biblical teaching (Genesis 2, Matthew 19, Romans 1, 1 Corinthians 6, etc.). They follow the Bible as their authority and have done so for centuries.

Now let’s take a closer look at the list of so-called “Christian denominations” that support gay marriage. What people often fail to mention is that every one of these groups is either a liberal breakaway from a historic church or not biblically Christian at all.

  • Episcopal Church (USA): A liberal offshoot of Anglicanism. It caused a major global split, and most Anglicans around the world no longer recognize it. Faithful Anglicans formed the ACNA to remain true to Scripture.

  • Presbyterian Church (USA): Not the same as the PCA. PCUSA has been bleeding members for years due to its abandonment of biblical teaching, especially on sexuality.

  • Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA): A liberal wing of Lutheranism. The LCMS and WELS remain faithful to Scripture and do not support gay marriage.

  • United Church of Christ (UCC): Long ago abandoned biblical orthodoxy. Denies the inerrancy of Scripture, supports universalism, and aligns more with culture than with the Bible.

  • Metropolitan Community Church (MCC): Was founded specifically to affirm homosexuality. It was never rooted in orthodox Christian belief and does not represent historic Christianity.

  • Quakers (liberal branches): Theologically all over the place. Many liberal Quaker meetings don’t even hold to the Bible as authoritative or affirm the core doctrines of Christianity.

  • Unitarian Universalist Association: This is not a Christian church. It denies the Trinity, the deity of Christ, and the authority of the Bible. It’s a pluralistic belief system, not Christianity.

  • So yes, some liberal groups exist that call themselves Christian and support gay marriage. But they are not representative of biblical Christianity — either because they broke off from it or never followed it to begin with.

The main point here is this: If you're surprised or outraged that the Southern Baptist Convention or other Bible-based churches oppose gay marriage, that’s not unusual or extreme — that’s the norm. This has been the consistent Christian view across nearly every branch of Christianity for over 2,000 years. The real anomaly is the small number of denominations that caved to cultural pressure. The vast majority of Christians around the world and throughout history have stood by the Bible’s teaching on marriage — and still do.

Who do you think you are to judge the validity of other people’s religious affiliation? We can just as easily say that you are not a “real” christian and make up a bunch of reasons why.

This is why people see religion as a great divider. Sad.

The Christian church doesn't own marriage.

Marriage is an institution created by God.

That's your belief. Not everyone shares that belief. Surely you understand that, right?

They really don't. They think they will save everyone. They also want the end of the world-the rapture

The nation’s largest Protestant denomination was motivated by conservative Christians’ success in reversing Roe v. Wade.

Southern Baptists voted overwhelmingly on Tuesday to call for the overturning of the Supreme Court ruling that legalized same-sex marriage, with strategists citing the successful effort that overturned the right to legal abortions as a possible blueprint for the new fight.

The denomination has long opposed gay marriage, but Tuesday was the first time its members have voted to work to legally end it. Expanding on conservatives’ success in overturning Roe v. Wade in 2022, the vote signals growing evangelical ambitions to overturn Obergefell v. Hodges, the Supreme Court ruling that was handed down 10 years ago this month.

Having grown up with Southern Baptists and Southern Methodists they are antithecal to everything but keeping everyone subservient to white men. These southern religious sects are as far from the teachings of Christ as black is from white. They are also intolerant of any other religious beliefs. Everything is a sin except anything white men choose to do.

Beware of these people because they are despicable and will murder in the name of Christ.

Horrible for your cousins and all children stuck in that type of toxic family. So glad you had your parents.

On the plus side, I'm sure they will bring back the age of legal consent to twelve or something.

Lapsed Catholic here. If gay people want to marry it has zero impact on my life. Why do people care so much about what others do? Worry about yourselves. Be kind.
