| I’m assuming that everyone with more than 50k in liquid savings has no debt other than mortgage? |
| This means stocks right? (I would have to pay taxes if I liquidated, but not a penalty) I have 600k in stocks, 180k in my savings account and 10k in checking. HHI 320k. We don’t have a mortgage so that does free up a lot of salary. |
Right. I’d consider fully funded about 200k per kid. If college costs more we can easily just pay the rest with our regular salaries. |
Pp here. I re read the thread and people want ages. We’re 38. |
| I have 12 times our monthly expenses in cash equivalents. The rest is in equities, real estate, or VC. |

Why is everyone so perplexed by OP’s question? As I read it, it’s what non-taxable cash and cash equivalent assets do you have at your disposal? By definition, that would mean outside of a retirement account for anyone.
I know exactly what we have: $180,000. Almost all of that is sitting in a money market fund in our brokerage account. The only tax on it is tax on the interest. That’s unavoidable. |
That is many times higher than the national average. And it’s also nearly broke compared to the other posters on this thread. |

$285K in savings. HHI $475K
51 Have mortgage, no other debt. Think we have too much in savings but not sure what we should do with it. Also have 401K and stocks, bonds etc but the brokerage acount only performs so-so, which is why I’m hesitant to move more out of savings. Any suggestions? |
The question wasn’t how much do I have total - it’s what I have in cash. I’m not broke lol |
I have about similar in my savings account but I have around 100K in student loans. |
| HYSA about $60K |
| This thread is depressing. We have 175k in a HYSA and no debt other than mortgage, and until now I thought we were doing great. |
Don't be so hard on yourself. This forum is full of braggarts and liars. |
We have debt other than a mortgage. DH likes leverage. I play defense with 12 times monthly expenses (including debt service on a line of credit and rental properties) in cash equivalents. |
you have way more than me! |
