Why is There no School Next Year on Monday, October 20th?

It impacts parents who need to find childcare for a random holiday. Just like June 6th this year- it should have been removed instead of adding June 17th.

The problem is finding coverage for those who take the day off. Like Yom Kippur, there are so many Jewish people employed by MCPS. You can't find enough substitutes for their classes.


3 of the 5 reliable subs for my school are Jewish. Outside of those five subs, you never know what you are going to get. Actually, that is not true: I usually get parent emails when I have someone else.

Squabbling over not giving one religious holiday but should give another religious holiday is just a bad look. Seriously, the number of school days remains constant year to year.
The more days off the later in June the year ends. School should not go from August 26-June 22 or later.
