My DH and I are trying to have extra spending money for an overseas vacation. We started donating our plasma for $$. You can make about $120/wk and they often have bonuses. There are a few places in the area. Traveling to the facility, getting blood work and levels tested, donating, and traveling back home, it's about a 3 hr commitment for me because 1 of the days I go after work, so I get stuck in rush hour traffic.

I net $1000 profit selling on ebay in my spare time and I work a full time high paying job. That's $30 profit a day. If you sell a $20-30 item every day, a $50 item every week, and the occasional $100 item once or twice a month you can sell $2000 a month and net $1000.

What items are you selling? Trawling thrift stores for possibilities is a lot of sunk time.

Np. What is your background and what do you teach?

I started with Zumba, then Barre, then a bunch of different dance workouts, and now Pilates. Huge demand for Pilates. I teach at gyms, dance studios, pilates studios. I think when I retire one day I will do aqua and senior fitness.

Where can one get certified to do aqua fitness?

Agree on thrift stores, but community yard sales and church sales are sometimes gold mines. I mainly do auctions and estate sales, I can search auction listings/bid while watching TV and go to estate sales on Saturdays. Some buy nothing/freecycle groups allow resellers. I make most of my money by buying lots that have a few valuable items that I can sell for a lot (and make my money back fast) and then slowly sell the rest for less money. Like a bag of costume jewelry that I know has a couple of pieces in it I can sell for >$100, or a shoebox of silverplate at an estate sale that has a couple of pieces of sterling they missed.

Tutoring at the middle/high school level, $75-$100 per hour.

Boarding pets in your home - especially if you can build a network vs. doing it through Rover or another service - can be $50-$100/night.

Two data points for tutoring. We paid a Calculus tutor $55/hour for our HS kid. The tutor was in college at MIT. We also paid $100 an hour to a retired high school teacher to augment language learning for our kid.

How did you find the tutor?

I don't dog walk but I did start boarding them overnight. We have FT jobs so we keep it chill with 2 max at a time so we can continue our normal lives. Without trying too hard we got up to $1K minimum per month. Started in January of last year and finished the year with an extra $16K. Made that within 6 months this year. It's been wonderful.

How did you find your clients? Rover or word of mouth? thank you for sharing. This is a great idea.

I’d look at doing home organizing / decluttering as a side thing since you’re already open to yard work and house stuff.

In this area people pay real money for help with things like cleaning out a garage or basement, getting unpacked after a move, setting up closets, etc. It’s hard work, but it adds up fast. Around DC/DMV it’s pretty normal for organizers to charge decent hourly or flat project rates, so a couple of weekend jobs a month could easily get you close to that extra $1K/month.

I know this because I do it myself lol.
