I think trying to earn an extra 1k a month is not that realistic. But maybe $500. I would probably try for a part time night or weekend retail or data entry work at home job or other mindless task because I have no interest in tutoring or babysitting.
I net $1000 profit selling on ebay in my spare time and I work a full time high paying job. That's $30 profit a day. If you sell a $20-30 item every day, a $50 item every week, and the occasional $100 item once or twice a month you can sell $2000 a month and net $1000.
What items are you selling? Trawling thrift stores for possibilities is a lot of sunk time.
Agree on thrift stores, but community yard sales and church sales are sometimes gold mines. I mainly do auctions and estate sales, I can search auction listings/bid while watching TV and go to estate sales on Saturdays. Some buy nothing/freecycle groups allow resellers. I make most of my money by buying lots that have a few valuable items that I can sell for a lot (and make my money back fast) and then slowly sell the rest for less money. Like a bag of costume jewelry that I know has a couple of pieces in it I can sell for >$100, or a shoebox of silverplate at an estate sale that has a couple of pieces of sterling they missed.
