It's "Six," Ms. "Big Fan of Musicals." |
No... I wouldn't (although the book certainly is.) It is the attitude that clean things = childhood, and a phase that everyone should rush through. |
You are making some wild assumptions. There are several better shows than Aladdin or Lion King that a teen can handle and enjoy. If you want to wow your teen, don't take them to Aladdin. |
Six is fun, but just know it is pretty light on historical information. The music is good but it's not like Hamilton in terms of "learning" much about history |
We live in NYC and go to a fair number of shows.
Teens favorites are six (recommend getting the relevant “Horrible Histories” book or something similar so that they have some historical background), Hamilton (they claim they loved it, but we saw it on a Friday nite after school and one of our kids fell asleep!), & Juliet, little shop of horrors (we saw this off Broadway maybe 5 years ago tho - the younger kids was a little freaked out by the plant, but they were 8 or 9 at the time), and great Gatsby (I personally didn’t like great gatsby at all, though) They seemed to secretly like Aladdin, but I suspect that it’s not cool to admit that. They really really didn’t like hadestown. Oddly they were also not fans of the lion king (“boring”), wicked (“too long”), or operation mincemeat (“dragged”) either. Their boy cousins really liked “the play that goes wrong” which was off-Broadway and cheap when we saw it - not sure of its status now. Other shows I can think of off the top of my head have, I think, left Broadway (beetlejuice - they loved it; phantom of the opera - didn’t like) I would like to see cursed child and the outsiders since my friends’ kids have liked both. |
I'll put in a plug for Maybe Happy Ending. The leads are fantastic, stagecraft is beautiful, and it's a heartfelt musical about love and loss. The firefly scene is one of the most gorgeous moments on Broadway. |
We saw Wicked last week. The new leads were great. We didn’t like Fiyero that much because he was totally out-charmed by Jonathan Bailey’s performance in the movie!
We also saw Stranger Things. I am not into that kind of stuff, but went along to humor the rest of the family. They liked the special effects, which were pretty incredible. |
When are you going? If you are buying now for the fall, I would take them to see Ragtime. |
