What's wrong with Wicked? I saw it in the West End in London with my then 14 yr old. She loved it.

I’d ask them. I took my teenage niece to see Aladdin and she loved it, but it wasn’t my favorite. Add Six to your list too, I really liked it.

I always dress up, not anything fancy but also not jeans or athletic wear but I’ve seen people in jeans at shows.

As for what to do nearby, you could go to dinner, check out Times Square, go to an observation deck (like top of the rock).

I paid $150 a ticket last time I went to a show in NYC. We saw Six.

I always check the website A View From My Seat before purchasing tickets to anything nowadays. But I agree with the pps that besides from obstructed view seats, there usually isn’t a bad view in the small Broadway theaters.

Lion King is beautiful and visually unique but the
(original) movie presents the story better.

Wicked is great if they read an enjoyed the book first.

No need to dress up. You go from the street to your seat in the dark and back to the street.

But it's nice to clean up for a big event. Comfort comed first, so you can forget yourself and focus on the show, but within that constraint, look nice.

As far as picking good seats, price of the ticket is a clue as to how good the show is. I am not typically a fan of the first four rows but rarely get tickets that expensive.

Also double check your times. Matinee shows are typically at 2 not 3.

Everything mentioned here is great. Hadestown would be last on my list for young teens. For a first Broadway show I’d probably pick Lion King. If attention span is short, Sixth is a short show.

Not what I'm seeing. I just booked a bunch of tickets for the summer and all shows that I checked were 2 pm matinees, including Sundays.

We have been to NYC before but missed out on a lot of stuff. Kids were the ones who wanted to see a Broadway musical. Kids are 13 and 14 and at the age where they don't care about anything so I don't know how much input I will get from them, but I will ask them to check out the ones mentioned and go from there.

The only musical bits we have seen are in Hollywood studios (Beauty and the Beast bit) and I am not really a fan. Kids enjoyed it though.

I'm curious if some theaters are more fancier than others and if that matters for a first timer.

Op again. We have been to Times Square, Wax museum and M&M store.

Haven't been to WTC or Top of the Rock. Is that better than the Edge? I was debating between the Edge and the Rock

The Wicked Book and musical are really, really different. I wouldn't give the book to a young teen to read there's a lot of weird sex in it.

are you going for the day or spending the night? You don't need to dress up, but I wear something plain and easy for travel (casual business casual maybe).

If you go to WTC memorial, you can walk over to battery park and see the Statue of Liberty. Top of the Rock is more traditional - you can walk around Rockefeller center - which I like better than Times Square.

for tickets, you can look at places like Sam's Club (not sure about Costco), entertainment book. Sometimes specific shows will have deals - so worth looking at a few.
