This thread is a perfect example of Dems hyperventilating about something we “know” is bad, without explaining why. Additionally, I til we can show that someone has done something naughty with their access, no one cares.

Lmao…this is a bad troll.

Seriously I’m not trolling. I woke up salty and pissed off that we aren’t able to communicate more eff natively about what DOGE is doing. You have to remember who you’re trying to reach. Unless you show them a picture book, THEY DON’T GET IT. People are used to info breaches, they don’t really worry about it anymore. If you can show them a scenario that involves the information being used in some novel nefarious way, it would be more helpful. Better if you can prove it’s been done.

Data breaches do happen, but this was obviously the intent of DOGE all along for those of us paying attention. Sketchy hackers allowed to access personal data and sending it to Russia. Imagine this happening under Biden or Obama.

That’s the thing. It did. There was a MASSIVE OPM data breach under Obama, China I think?? No one cares anymore. Give me a story about what they’re doing with the information.

Whataboutism doesn’t work “anymore”.

Obama didn’t appoint and direct the OPM data breach. How can you even compare that with the open heist that is Elon?

I’m not, but the people you’re trying to convince to care about this are. Spell the treachery out.

I don’t like blindly clicking on sites unless I have an idea what and why.

Jeez just stop. Common courtesy to give a short synopsis when you were posting something instead of just making people go do all the work. Not everyone has all the time in the world.

Seriously now I’m curious. Is this an entitlement issue? Are you lazy or can you not read and digest anything longer than a bullet point?

Is this what happens to helicopter babies grow up”?

Or is this the result of the collaborative learning public school education model, which took emphasis away from the teacher as lecturer who directed and instructed students in the independent acquisition of knowledge (i.e. reading actual books, research, labs and recording and writing to prove what you know (paragraphs written in power point slides don’t count)) and replaced it with activities meant to teach critical thinking skills but don’t do a very good job at it because the skills needed (research, reading, listening, discussion and writing) to think critically aren’t actually being taught.

Suggestions for you— keep scrolling if you are too lazy to click on a legitimate link.

Because complaining that a random on the internet didn’t give you the bullet point to make it easy for you is a serious case of the lazies.

An infinite amount of knowledge is immediately available to you via the internet, and this case a link to a reputable source was provided. The ease to access is unprecedented in history. You don’t have to trek to a library, book store or news stand. Information is literally at the tip of your finger. You click and the article opens, you can skim it in a minute or two to get the gist and decide if you want to keep reading.

It’s all so easy. I mean if you can’t click a link all by yourself, then how do you manage to get out of bed in the morning and get yourself dressed?

I blame helicopter GenX parents. This is why we need a continuous supply of immigrants from the developing world, without them country is doomed.

Why should we care? How can this harm us?

To be blunt, Russia, North Korea, and others could exploit military weaknesses using this information. Serious attacks could happen on both military and civilian targets.

Data that we rely on could be erased. What if one day your work history no longer exists in the Social Security database? It won't matter that you paid in for all those years once it's gone.

Our leadership may already be getting blackmailed. They may also be getting threatened. We don't want decisions being made under coercion.

I'm sure there are many more possibilities. Get creative with your critical thinking.

For those having trouble understand why it matters, here's an op-ed for you:

But government records contain far more sensitive information than even the tech giants possess — our incomes, our bank account numbers, if we were fired, what diseases we have, how much we gamble.

In 2009 the Georgetown law professor Paul Ohm envisioned the assemblage of a DOGE-like amount of data and called it the “database of ruin.” “Almost every person in the developed world can be linked to at least one fact in a computer database that an adversary could use for blackmail, discrimination, harassment or financial or identity theft,” he wrote.

Wasn’t NPR the media group that refused to report on HB’s laptop? Why should we believe them now?

What is with the constant Hunter Biden laptop people. The entire trump family is embezzling/profiting and absolutely working the quid pro quo angle to daddy —out in the open.

Hunter is like every offspring from a wealthy family. He tried to make money on dad. He did not. He was tried in court and lost. Should have served time.

Two wrongs do not make a right BUT and I’m appalled to say BUT - BUT the trump crime family is so, so much more egregious. Just stop.

We are lucky to have NPR.

Finally on WaPo, but like the 5th or 6th story down.

Yeah, way to sanewash this administration WaPo. Somehow the party of "I don't want no gubmint to have my personal data" has an Elon Musk inspired central database with all of our taxpayer data, medical diagnoses etc. I assume Jeff Bezos likes the idea. What could possibly go wrong?

DOGE aims to pool federal data, putting personal information at risk
https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2025/05/07/doge-government-data-immigration-social-security/
The goal — a centralized system with unprecedented access to data about Social Security, taxes, medical diagnoses and other private information — would create a multitude of vulnerabilities, experts say.

Oh the irony of the Republicans who opposed Real ID and national ID as government overreach being completely mute as Elon Musk and DOGE put together the most comprehensive database of Americans' personal information in history.

This is straight out of the authoritarian playbook. Once they've amassed data on each of us, we are all screwed. One person will step out of line, and they will target them and destroy their lives and their families lives. And the rest of us will remain silent out of fear for our lives. It's how dictatorships work. Brilliant move by DOGE. Terrify the population into submission.
