IME, class group chats in 5th/6th grade are usually a dumpster fire because the kids are too young to make good decisions + novelty of having a phone / watch.
I just told my kids to mute notifications and to chime in judiciously.

i have a saying: nothing good ever happens with a group chat. all kids, even the nice ones, come off as jerks. parents are reading this. kids don't have the maturity for this. don't learn the hard way.
