By blocking exports, he is re-raising Trump's tariffs to infinity, and showing how the 145% tariff is hurting the US more than China. Someone posted in another thread about how resolute Xi is. His citizens could love him or detest him, but we will never know because they are too scared to say anything. A citizen complained about a parking ticket and got arrested.

These elements are available elsewhere, including the US in shuttered mines, but China owns at least 80% of the processing, so they basically own the supply chain.

Since T-Boy seems to have aggravtaed the rest of the world, not many will be inclined to facilitate his battle with China. And ourt shuttered mines? How many years to make them productive again?

Zero years:

Thanks for posting this 12 year old article about a company that went bankrupt in 2015. Mountain pass does produce a lot of ore, no one is disputing that. They even refine a fair bit. The problem is that although they process a small amount of it, most of it is sent to China for processing. We are still years away from processing the amount we need. It's like we have a bunch of sap and no way to make it into syrup.

Big whoop. China banned rare Earths back in the 2010s and it backfired stupendously.

+100 you can’t just “turn on” critical
Mineral exploration and processing like Trump “turned on” the water in California. . . Oh yah, that was a terrible decision, too, since it did nothing to help the fires but wasted all of the water the Central Valley needs for the growing season. This guy does not get it at all. He has not a technical nor strategic thought in his big beautiful brain. We’re f’ed.
