The very nature of strip clubs involves the display and commodification of female bodies, reducing women to their physical attributes and sexual performance, which can be seen as a form of objectification and exploitation.

Men who go there aren't respectful of women outside the club either.

In this instance, it was a woman who wanted to go.

Yes but mainly women are there to serve and men to pay.

Honestly, men in the club are way more respectful than men on the street, mostly because there are other men there who are paid to make sure there's no BS.

It's almost like men policing other men's behavior works...

Yes but mental impact of seeing women as subservient sex objects stays with them even after they leave.

Or not. There may be something else at work here.

Two of my long-term ex GFs both had had part time jobs during university as art class models (yes, nude models). This respectable employment has nothing whatsoever in common with women employed by strip clubs,

- other than being nude in front of strangers.

Both my exes really wanted to be naked in front of other people. It’s not unusual; in Europe and the USA, there are all sorts of “clothing optional” venues for people; even families. And that’s totally fine for those people.

But coming back to OP: both my exes made me take them to strip clubs. Both were straight; now both happily married with kid(s).

Don’t read too much into her desires; just be considerate, run with them, and enjoy each other as you are.

This is far from the only place where that dynamic exists. The vast majority of all cultural programming promotes this trope. Acting like it's a big deal in one of few places where women have the agency to choose to participate for pay is a bit much.

I wouldn't want my wife, girlfriend or daughter dancing at a strip club for the reasons listed in the first paragraph--plus they seem gross--but I've noticed that some of the women dancing seem to be controlling and manipulating the men, not the other way around.

Strip club workers, often classified as independent contractors, face issues including unsafe working conditions, sexual harassment and assault from customers, exploitation, and lack of legal protections and benefits.

Twenty-six percent reported having injected heroin and 29% reported having smoked crack in the past 3 months. Fifty-seven percent reported using drugs in the club in the past 3 months. Sixty-one percent had ever engaged in transactional sex, and 67% of those did so for the first time after beginning to dance.

A study done on The Block in Baltimore? I'm shocked it was that low.

It's especially horrible because we went out for dinner first and had the psychic trauma of having a woman server and a woman bussing tables, and even a woman subway driver.

How is this materially different from many other jobs where women (and men) are "independent contractors"?

It's not. It's that PP considers this a shameful way to earn a living and is using statistics to browbeat.

There are many strip clubs where men are the dancers and women the customers. Just an FYI.

No, I would not be caught dead in one. Nor woukd I consider partnering with a man who frequented them.

You can do better.
