SecDef shares US war Plan in Group chat

My favorite quote from the article:

"William Martin, a spokesperson for Vance, said that despite the impression created by the texts, the vice president is fully aligned with the president. “The Vice President’s first priority is always making sure that the President’s advisers are adequately briefing him on the substance of their internal deliberations,” he said. “Vice President Vance unequivocally supports this administration’s foreign policy. The President and the Vice President have had subsequent conversations about this matter and are in complete agreement.”"

God, JD Vance is pathetic. He has no balls and had no freaking spine. I can just hear him "I'm sorry Mr. President I didn't mean to disagree with you. It never happen again."

First, using signal to coordinate a government operation is flat out illegal. I’m GS-13 random attorney and know this. If I coordinated a legal case with a colleague via signal instead of email, in person or agency Teams, I’d be fired. And I would grieve it to the union, because I’d deserve and be thankful no one was pursuing criminal action. And I know this because of mandatory annual federal records training. Second, great, they added a journalist who wasn’t a traitor and got lucky— they were exposed until the operation was over. Does not mean they will always get lucky using informal group chat to plan an attack. The next inadvertent admit might well post screenshots far and wide and get troop killed. If I was in the military, this text chain and the response would make me livid. In fact, I’m not livid and I’m furious they are so flippant about the lives of the men who carry out these missions. “nothing bad happened THIS TIME” is a c—p excuse.

Well. Cornyn and Bacon are concerned. They seem to think that “someone” should look into it. But seems like they don’t think that someone should be Congress.

But for Hillary's emails the GOP demanded days of hearings....and that was far more minor than what has just transpired with planning war via group chat.

The entire Republican delegation is addicted to Twitter and Signal. It’s the worst kept secret on the Hill and in DC. They do business on Signal in order to avoid FOIA. Literally all of the entire GOP delegation on the Hill and in executive branch that knows how to use a cell phone uses Signal (sorry Sen. Grassley).

I’ve had Republicans appointees of this Administration tell me to contact them over Signal because they don’t put anything in text.

JD Vance and all the others have been using Signal for years and years to conduct sensitive government business.

In addition to the obvious security issues with conducting a government operation on Signal, the article mentions that Waltz had set the messages to delete after a certain point--7 or 14 days or so. Which means that you've got top level officials having policy and operations discussions, including Vance's stated concern about engaging in the operation, and all of it will just disappear.

Barely 2 months into his presidency, and the US has lost 70 years of preeminence, including a functioning top secret group.

“Under the records laws applicable to the White House and federal agencies, all government employees are prohibited from using electronic-messaging applications such as Signal for official business, unless those messages are promptly forwarded or copied to an official government account,” Jason R. Baron, a professor at the University of Maryland and the former director of litigation at the National Archives and Records Administration, told Harris.

But, then Trump flouts the records law, too, so really, nothing's gonna happen.

"But her emails" folks are so quiet in here. The silence is palpable. You know they are reading it though.

Which is why they used signal. To get around around Federal Recprds Act laws. This is a feature, not a bug.

A friendly reminder that every accusation that has come from republicans toward democrats in the past 10 years or so is really a confession.
