The Republicans have wanted to kill social security forever. Do you remember when Bush tried to privatize it? It’s on the hit list. I think it will be dramatically scaled back. Will only cover 70+ and very poor. It’s appalling because companies don’t offer pensions anymore. Trump has tanked the stock market so all of our 401k (which were never designed to be a primary retirement fund!) have dropped. This is the problem with having billionaires running government; they don’t know the problems of average people.

I don’t see the GOP speaking up for anything. The OK senator just said he’s there to greenlight the president. America ciiod br burning and they’d praise Trump for the successful heat of the fire.

What I don’t get is why do billionaires want to live this way? Peter Thiel built a bunker in NZ. You know if you act normal and save the planet, you could have a really nice life. No bunker needed.

Kind of amazing to imagine a story where a bunch of 75 year olds take revenge on the government

Can more easily imagine a bunch of 75 year olds eating cat food (if they can afford it) and people like me seeing the dream of retiring one day go down the tubes. No I don't have the DCUM millions saved to cover me in any circumstance - we do fine for ourselves but are also counting on those SS checks when we reach 70, if we are lucky enough to get there.

THEY. DO. NOT. CARE. Every Republican is lined up with their hands out to receive their checks from greedy, selfish billionaires who want more for themselves. The rest of America is screwed and will have to fend for themselves. Social Security, Medicare, SNAP, veterans benefits, and more - ALL are at risk to be on the chopping block, despite all of us having paid in to those systems for our whole lives. I have been paying in to Social Security and Medicare for around 45 years. That probably works out to $700,000 by now. I have not yet collected a single penny of it. If Republicans decide to take it from me, I will consider it CRIMINAL THEFT and will demand immediate repayment. I will go after anyone and everyone involved in that scheme, by whatever means necessary.

Same — although not nearly as much money. My first paycheck job was at age 14. Later jobs with benefits calculated the benefits based on assumptions about social security. I would have made completely different life decisions if I hadn’t believed that the money that I paid out in mandatory deductions was not going to provide me with a secure base in my older age. I can see getting to a point where I have nothing left to lose — and I won’t be the only one who feels that way.

Yes, there is definite and serious risk and it is being discussed by Republicans. That is an absolute fact.

I suggest you start checking out what's happening at GOP town halls. And no, it's not "far right activists on Soros's payroll being flown around to disrupt townhalls" as the right wing keeps falsely trying to claim - it's actual constitutents, many of whom are Republicans, military veterans and so on. And when the disruptions happen, most of the attendees join in agreement about their frustration with Republicans over it.

Yes, I know you paid in your whole lives, but that money was spent long ago on Bush’s wars and other things you voted for. It was never sitting in a special account with your name on it making guaranteed money. It’s just a huge liability that needs to be paid now.

If you want to save your elderly years you need to start convincing your congressmen that they have more to fear from crossing you than crossing the Heritage Foundation. You’re retired and I know you have time on your hands. Pick up the phone and save yourselves.
