The issue is that in many homogenously white rural areas concepts like advanced math tracks are not a problem. It's here in Montgomery County where there are issues. There appear to be two issues. The classes end up being racially skewed, possibly even just randomly and the bigger issue that social elites don't get tracked for enrichment because their kids aren't good enough, so they created this byzantine system where they can balance the races in the classes but also allow elites to garner special advantages through cramming and tutoring with resources that many don't have or at least don't think to do. Basically, excluding your average white kids that are academically minded. It's totally artificial, because it really shouldn't take that much more resources to teach calculus than balancing a check book. Generally, teachers can handle it especially if you are talking about the top 15% of kids in a class who are generally open to and excited about learning. There is no excuse here. Many would consider teaching advanced kids easier than remedial kids. Way to go MCPS, way to put elitism in elite. Bravo bravo! |
Well, the ones we have were elected by "many Blue Marylanders." |
You are hilarious. I assume that by elites you mean a two-fed family that can’t afford private school. No real elites are utilizing MCPS. Their kids are in private. |
Talk about frustrated white superiority! Take out your frustration in the Trump forums.

Where did the other MCPS cuts thread go?
Wondering how broadly the order will be applied. Would it apply to a girls business program? |
It get's deleted every time it shows an improper relationship with the Sandi Spring Slave Museum. Pretty interesting how that keeps happening. |

The Sandy Spring Slave Museum and African Art Gallery is an independent, nonprofit institution dedicated to promoting and preserving the contributions of Black people throughout the African diaspora. Sandy Spring is the first free Black community in Montgomery County, and it is our mission to share the stories of our ancestors.
As the co-director and a descendant of this community, I must call out your false statements and misrepresentation of our museum. We are an entirely volunteer run organization. If you are truly concerned about our continued existence, I invite you to support one of the best local independent museums in the area by making a donation. Respectfully, Dr. Troy E. Boddy Co-Director |
Translation: "allowed MCPS to pick kids not merit based, if MCPS goes back merit based selection" Kinda ironic because if anything magnet is the one thing that must be merit based... But we are talking about MCPS. Complete sh*t show at this point. |
DEI has not ended within MCPS. |
DEI is MCPS. MCPS is DEI. We advertise it. |
I really appreciate the museum and the work it does. I was there earlier this summer and plan to return in the future. Thank you. |
In their defense, MCPS performance is not flat. Sadly it has gone down over the years. MCPS is a giant money sucking machine. |

I think people are forgetting why "magnet" programs were created in the first place. In essence, magnets ARE a DEI program because they were intended to pull in highly able learners into lower SES areas to reduce segregation (like how magnets' opposite poles attract).
If we want to talk about programs for highly able learners, we should probably not call them "Magnets" any more if they're not going to be located in lower SES areas and reduce integration. I am all for programs for the highly able, but separating out the programs into the zones is the opposite of the intent of DEI from an SES perspective. |
Respectfully, Why do I have to pay an active MCPS administrator to access this museum? And why is it that if I don’t pay this active MCPS administrator, I can’t have access to the museum? Thank you for your attention to this matter. |
