Holdbacks are an epidemic EVERYWHERE. Almost every top tier club/team has several. Madlax, for example, allegedly has more holdbacks than anyone. |
Tough one to answer, as I don't know how the Cavs 2020 tryouts went this year for spring/summer. They could have gotten some better talent, although my assumption is it will most likely be the same core of kids as the Fall. I know nobody from VLC jumped ship, not sure about Madlax or 3D. But those are the predominant teams that carousel kids in Northern VA. The joy of all the clubs is they know each other's schedules and as you probably are experiencing, require quick commitments so they can "lock down" kids and move on. If you son was good enough to make Cavs Orange, I suspect he will make Madlax Capital and the VA team for sure without an issue. Madlax has its own baggage in the owner Maddox and the previous drama which you can search and read. It's a big reason why many parents don't end up going with Madlax. |
Based on your question, I assume you were not on the Cavs 2020 team last year. If your son was, you would know that nearly all the best players from their team bolted to VLC in the fall. Assuming you live in Loudoun, I would contact VLC to see if your son can get a look. I think most youth teams will start practicing soon, and you probably could arrange for your son to get a look at one of their practices. Not only would he likely know the former Cav players now on VLC, you could also work with those families for car pools to practices. I would not wait for the Madlax tryout because who knows if your son would even be picked. I would contact VLC immediately and see if that's a fit. Otherwise, I would probably play for Cavs and then wait for the fall tryouts. |
| Bumping this old thread. Where do kids in NW DC play lacrosse? Both to learn and then, as they get better, for teams? |
Depends on the age to some extent, but there are several choices. Both Bethesda Lacrosse and Next Level have beginning clinics and rec leagues and also have club teams. Madlax does clinics and has club teams. There are other options as kids age, but I'd say most people in NWDC starting out in lacrosse in the younger ages play in one of those three programs. |
| Just a heads up - Triple Edge is VERY VERY disorganized. Schedules for games don't come out until only days (sometimes hours) before. |
Yes and that was also a very annoying aspect of the Fall box league in McLean. |
