+1 UMich does an outstanding job

UMD was ok, could have been a bit better organized but topics and presentations were good.

Cornell was horrible.

We went to a Pitt admitted student day and I found it really helpful. My son enjoyed hearing from faculty in his intended major, and loved getting to talk directly to them afterward. There was a big ‘fair’ where you could get info on food, housing, safety, clubs, etc from the people running those departments— much better and more accurate info than you get on a student-led tour.
So yeah, I came away a fan of the admitted student day (though not of Pitt itself, so much; kid decided to go elsewhere). My kid also went to admitted students days at UMD and UMBC and found those helpful— much more than just a standard tour.

Penn State was great! Really liked the small breakout sessions with the professors in your potential major.

We loved JMU. The fabulous marching band greeted us and everyone was so welcoming. Great smaller sessions by majors.

It's a busy day. You'll check in and get your swag bag and find your student's name on the admissions banner. The first 45 minutes or so is in Kaplan Arena. Various student and admin speakers, cheerleaders, rah rah stuff. You'll be able to look online to see the schedule which will include tours of buildings and talks on a variety of topics. There isn't time to get to all the ones you want to go to, but many are repeated throughout the day. My student and I split up some, too, so we could go to more sessions. Lunch is in the Sunken Gardens. Club tables are set up to visit and get info. There will be professor representatives from various majors to talk with as well. Then the afternoon sessions and wrap up.

Thank you!! Sounds like it will be a busy but informative day.

Welcome to the Tribe! I have a junior there. When we did “what are you thankful for” around the table at Thanksgiving this year, Hers was “every year Inget more thankful I listened to the voice inside me that told me to ED WM”. I’m used to “thankful for the dog” or “being done with PE” or whatever. So my heart just melted. It’s been a great experience.

We did several years ago. It’s what turned my son 180 degrees to uga. I recall really good presentation by Terry school in a break out session among other things.

+1 Very happy Davidson freshman here as well

Bulldog Days at Yale was amazing - 2 days/ nights! We did not attend, but it got rave reviews from our son and sounded like it sealed the deal for many/ most who attended.

Parents and kids split up immediately; she attended a few classes and panels, went to the club fair, lunches and dinners with other accepted students and current students. There were performances and social events - she went to the late night coffee place with a bunch of kids and then to a party. Got back to the hotel very late and had a great time. It was a taste of what going to school there would be like and now, midway through freshman year, she loves it even more than she thought she would.

Would love to know the school PP!

Do kids admitted ED (or who have otherwise committed) go to these admitted student days? Thinking it would still be fun and allow for meeting future classmates but not sure if it's primarily for kids who haven't decided.

Anonymous wrote:UVA is great--they bring in the mascot, band, acapella singers and have a number of informative sessions. We learned a lot and it was definitely worth while.

UNC was meh if you already took a tour. They had a brief info session with the mascot, admissions and students answering a few questions, then a tour that had a little more info about dorms than a normal tour, but otherwise was the same. Was surprised it wasn't better.

uVA made it clear my kid didn’t want a larger public. The sessions were over crowded and people pushy in line. There was a lot of school spirit which was great- but talking to current kids found it would be hard to get courses he wanted.
