It lacks the cachet of the top PA schools like Swarthmore and Bucknell, but if you look at its incoming student stats, it hangs with the likes of Dickinson and Gettysburg. I'm not sure why it can't catch a break in USNWR. Could be graduation rates, which might warrant further investigation.

Bucknell booster strikes again

Bucknell is a pipeline to the Street!

Which pipeline?

Putting Bucknell on level with Swarthmore is hilarious.

Swat is more intellectual, but Bucknell has equal if not better outcomes, especially in finance and consulting. They're the top LACs in PA, 1a and 1b if you will, they just cater to different kids with different goals.

Yeah, no.

Haverford.
Bryn Mawr.

.

My kid goes to Ithaca and I perceive a lot of common qualities.

Good to know. Muhlenberg and Ithaca are both on the list. Haven’t visited Ithaca yet. Kid is interested in liberal arts, including writing and languages, plus performing arts (voice/musical theater but not necessarily a BFA).

Add Bard to your list.

I think Bard is a bit too remote. We do also have Sarah Lawrence on the list. And Oberlin, which would be a reach.

Muhlenberg fired a professor for speaking out against the war in Gaza, so for one thing they don’t have much respect for academic freedom and free speech. That’s a red flag to me.

You are correct. See FIRE letter to Muhlenberg. https://www.thefire.org/research-learn/fire-letter-muhlenberg-college-october-1-2024

+ 100%, especially any such SLAC that has acceptance rate greater than 35%

+1 and has only a C+ on Forbe's financial health. That's the lowest I've ever heard of for a "good" college

Muhlenberg takes great care of its students. Kind of a boring location, IMO, but not too far from a couple of major cities and the mountains.

The majority of US colleges are scored between a C+ and C- on that list, even places like Syracuse and Fordham (which surprised me). How at risk are schools with those grades on this list? Hard to say but the overall financial picture for colleges in this country is concerning.

My (limited) understanding from my financial advisor is that a C/C+ rating is still ok (like the “C’s get degrees” poster likes to harp on) and not a cause for significant concern as long as it stays stable.

^the question came up because we were talking about college savings and DC’s plans, which included some VA publics that are on shaky ground, so I asked him about the significance of these ratings.

Exactly!! Thats the point.. risk rating combined with higher AR doesnt make a college look fine

Those schools (the 55% of the 900 survey scoring that low) are rarely discussed here.
