Yea I agree that the poster has no way of knowing how much of a douchebag her husband was in college. I’m sure he was a bigger one than she thinks. And no doubt his friends were too. Again, to be clear, I am not saying that UVA guys are bad. I am saying they are douche bags. There’s a difference. |
I would say it is more cut throat academically with so many in the College of Arts and Sciences trying to get into Mcintyre, Batten, Global Public Health after their secind year. Cut throat “socially”?, I guess it depends on each student’s personality and interests. |
| Why can’t you spell the name “McIntire” correctly? I doubt you have any personal experience with UVA. |
So much hostility! Geez! My kid is a second year and is not applying to the “Comm School”, but has many friends who are. They all very stressed over grades, and being accepted into those selective clubs. They will major in Econ as a back-up major. So sorry about the spelling. I did not attend a fancy university, so my spelling might be a bit off. I still think I got my idea across. I hope you have the day you deserve. |
| What’s less stressful UVA or W&M? My kid actually likes both, but I don’t think they want to be on a hamster wheel for another 4 years. |
Everyone should investigate that this is in fact true. I thought it would be true when I went to college, but it was not. Much more homogenity than I expected. |
| I think the stress level is student dependent. My son is at W&M and is having a great time. Working hard enough, but isn't obsessed with getting straight As. His roommate is a higher stress student, working to get those As. My son is having a very well-rounded fun college experience. |
There are so many different groups at UVA due to size. My kid hasn’t found their place yet but is involved in a club sport that is super socials, an arts group that has parties as well as rehearsals, and their roommate is big into the Chi Alpha scene which seems huge. Maybe the Greek scene seems dominant to some. |
This is in line with what I've heard. If you want to buy into a "stress culture", you can. If you don't, you're fine. |
Is this how you go through life? Judging thousands of people without knowing them? WOW. Just wow. Sounds like to detest uva so why not hop off the thread? K? |
I don't think either one is particularly stressful. |
+1 I had a UVA freshmen tell me that this week—classmates are average. Not super smart. A lot of grade inflated Nova public kids |
If your kid doesn’t thoroughly enjoy learning and is looking for easy….don’t go to UVA. It’s that simple. |
He doesn’t sound very bright himself if he is basing an entire school on his first year introductory classes and judging kids he barely knows in the 4 months he’s been there. |
+1 That is hysterical that he thinks he can sum up a school — bless his heart |
