You make a lot of sense. I hope the Dem party regroups, goes through a period of self-analysis, and allows a new generation of candidates to emerge. I hope the GOP will do the same in time and move away from the Trump stranglehold on the party towards normal politicians who are not part of the extreme right. We need two healthy parties. |
That’s because Clinton ran on Republican mating calls (tough on crime, welfare reform, welfare to the rich). The only Democrat ideal he tried to push was Hillarycare pushed by Hillary and the Republicans villified her for it and villified her for being an activist First Lady. They didn’t like that and always hated her more than they did Bill because they assumed she was the more liberal of the 2 |
Yet he was found guilty by a jury of his peers, who were vetted by his attorneys for any anti-Trump bias. Meanwhile he had classified documents in the bathroom but had the good fortune to get a judge he himself had appointed. A judge who delayed, delayed and delayed before finally dismissing the case because she claimed the special counsel's appointment was invalid (something she could have done right off the bat - but that would given the appeals court time to intervene). One of these was the justice system working as designed. The other was a joke. You tell me which was which. |
I was excited but cautious when Obama was elected his first term. He was an inspiring orator and brought with him a long needed change, our first black President. It was an electric amazing feeling.
Then instead of being a post racial unifier he became devisive and we began to see him and Democrats break people into categories and sub groups in a way that had never been done before. It was the beginning of a new age of grievance. The next time he won, I just went on with my life because that’s what healthy people do. |
Republicans hated Obama because he was black. You know it, I know it and some of them know it. |
Scary thing is that history typically says presidents did a "good job." People are already saying that president elect is crazier this time than 2027-2020. Short attention spans, how quickly they forget to vote him in again. SMH. |
I hear this a lot from people on the right. What is your evidence for that? It's tossed around like a truism, but it's never clear what is meant by it. Could you give some examples? |
No, he was elected because people liked him and his message. He's mixed by the way and his mother was white. I wanted him to do a good job as did many. I felt the same way about Biden and hopefully Trump will be successful. That's how everyone should be instead of divisive like your comment. |
He actually wasn’t found guilty of rape. And no, I don’t put much stock in sexual assault charges brought up 30+ yrs later when he is running for election. Coincidence? As for the fraud. Those are a dumb charges. No one cares about hush money to a porn star. Paying off someone to not say negative things about you seems fair game ethically, if it’s fine to pay celebrities 1million+ to endorse you. |
Obama respected the laws and Constitution, and actually tried to work with the other side. All previous presidents appointed reasonably competent people to the Cabinet. You can’t say any of that about Trump. He doesn’t care about anything except punishing his enemies.
As a democrat I was upset that GW Bush won, but it not the sinking fear that I feel now about Trump. |
He wasn’t going to get a fair trial in deep blue New York on Trumped up fake charges. His felony is a big fat joke that backfired big time. Don’t even get into the classified Documents situation , Biden had classified documents stored in his GARAGE next to his car and skated because the judge essentially called out his dementia (even though when he took them he wasn’t suffering from Dementia and wasn’t even President , he was VP!) Neither one of them should have had classified documents in their homes but the difference in the way the two Presidents were treated is scandalous and terrifying double standard. Again, only made Trump stronger. |
Okay- he stole classified documents, he tried to coerce a state official to fraudulently increase his vote count in Georgia, he started a riot at the Capitol and wanted his own VP killed. As for the sexual assault and hush money, imagine if Obama had anything like that in his record. |
I agree that Democrats, or at least Left-leaning people, became more divisive and identitarian during the second Obama term, but I don't think Obama himself was the cause. It was more of a media-driven phenomenon that intentionally used hot takes to trigger audience outrage and profit from their increased engagement. In fact, I specifically remember Obama making statements warning that this was divisive and alienating, and encouraging people not to "shout down" others. |
I agree with you that neither should have had classified documents in their homes. I disagree with the reason they were treated differently. When authorities asked Trump to return his documents, lied about them, and then eventually just said he was entitled to keep them. When authorities came to Biden, he cooperated. |
DP. No, we should absolutely call out racism when we see it. Pretending like it doesn't exist doesn't help anyone, except the racists. |
