Honestly imo it's something the fan should have thought about. For me the issue here is erasing the eyes moreso than the lip color. And I think creating the new poster showing her eyes was a deliberate choice on the part of the producers etc.

It's also relevant to the show. She's not just someone sitting back and being ordered around outside of her own volition. Why are you trying to sort of erase her most expressive feature from the poster?

I know, I know - the old poster. But, COME ON!

But the fan's purpose was entirely different than the studio's. The studio's poster is intended to sell tickets to a movie starring Erivo and Grande. The fan's version is intended to look like the original theatrical poster.

Yes, and? The fan was experimenting and blending art. You know, like how Erivo signed up to blend art by starring in a movie based on a musical based on a book, that was a spin-off of a different book and movie?

Yes, I'm saying that the fan's version was done as their own artwork for their own purposes (and therefore can look whatever way they want it to look). The studio's was a piece of marketing artwork which is still just as they wanted it to be, displaying the faces of the two leads.

…right. No one said otherwise. Everyone gets it.

But the reference poster from the musical isn’t about individual actors; it is about characters. And reworking a movie poster that is about individual actors and morphing it to align with literally WHAT IT WAS DESIGNED TO REFERENCE, which was the musical poster, was simply an artistic expression, an act of fandom. An act of love of the character, frankly. Because at this point, we can be excited to see what we’ve seen and hear what we’ve heard of these actors in these roles, but what we know and love are the Broadway actors in these roles and—hell—the characters we imagined when we first read the book! (Which is a spin-off of other beloved book and movie characters!)

She’s mad that fans aren’t honoring her. Well guess what, they love *Elphaba.* And maybe she’ll even end up being their very favorite Elphaba, but like, they’re excited for their green girl, their misfit, their Elphaba who defies gravity. They’re excited to see that character on the big screen. Let them have their excitement without villainizing freaking fan art.

There are real, actual problems in the world.

Guess I'm not as much a fan of Erivo as I thought I was. What a drama queen.

Actors/Actresses have no sense of reality anymore. They are lost in their own stupidity.
And to those of you defending her childish rant?? You are teetering on the edge. He tantrum rant was uncalled for. A fanmade poster that won't be used in theaters or for any promotional stuff what so ever. Cynthia is another pathetic excuse for a human being.

If you spot it, you've got it...

Side topic but does Ariana Grande have acting chops for this? I know she was in some Disney shows as a kid/teen but does she have actual experience acting as an adult? Maybe she does -- I honeslty don't know. I was a bit surprised at her casting. I know she can sing the songs but was puzzled re: acting in a huge, expensive franchise film. (Not a diss at all, I just never thought of her as an actress.)

She was just on SNL and was fantastic.

She's a cranky old lady. 37 years old playing a college student.

I get a Jada Pinkett Smith vibe from her. Like she is unnecessary drama and overestimates her worth.

Sketch comedy is great. It's not the same as a lead in feature film. At all.

Close, but not quite. It erases HER, only. The other actress's hand is moved, and dimple removed, but she's still herself. There's nothing left in the photo to indicate that the hat-wearer is Cynthia Erivo at all. It's total erasure.

But but but the white woman's mouth is covered on the poster! Are you saying that white women shouldn't have a voice? Are you okay with white women being silenced? Of course, only fellow white women are able to understand the seriousness of it, and therefore allowed input!

Isn't that poster from the play and not the movie? I swear I've seen it before. I am not watching the movie due to Ariana being in it, but this causing drama for the sake of drama. She needs a thicker skin. It's frickin cartoon drawing.

Why do they cast 37 year olds as teens and 20-something’s as moms? I will never understand Hollywood.

This is such a beautiful story and music, I've seen the show multiple times. I really hoped I could overlook how much I dislike AG to enjoy this movie. Having to overlook 2 unlikable people though, is too much. I can't imagine spending my time or $ to support either now.

Agree.

She is at least 12 years too old for the part
