Surrogacy is amazing. If a woman chooses to do this in the US, she should be allowed to make the choice. It’s despicable to take this away.

Stop exploiting poor women. If you want surrogacy then the surrogate should be a family member who does not charge for anything. Surrogacy not only exploits women it is also baby selling.

It is such a misconception on this board that (1) most women who use surrogates do so for vanity; and (2) that US surrogates are poor women who are exploited. Neither is correct.

Why? The women who carry these babies to term are providing an incredibly valuable service to couples who otherwise wouldn’t be able to have children. If the surrogate is an adult who willingly agreed and was paid the amount that was agreed upon, then how is she being exploited?

Third trimester is week 28-40. That’s late and very rare.

3rd trimester elective termination is still 100% lawful in D.C., New Jersey, and several other U.S. states, but is BANNED by these supposedly “progressive” EU countries.

Those EU countries have government funded abortion.

But they restrict elective abortions much earlier. Even Finland has a 12 week limit.

If the government will pay for your abortion, you don’t need to wait past 12 weeks.

In the U.S., most non-health-related abortions later than 12 weeks are because the woman is too poor to get it done immediately.

Why don’t you set up a charity to fund them?

If you want the government to ban it after a certain point, then the government should pay for it before that point.

Americans have a very idealized view of Europe and how they think Europeans think, and that is very clear when we discuss reproductive issues.

Abortion rate is lower in many EU countries - Spain, Italy, etc. It’s not that women are having them earlier; it’s that they’re generally not having them. They are more vigilant about birth control. And with the waiting lists in the Spanish medical system, I suspect a lot of women who want an elective early abortion are paying for it out-of-pocket.

Surrogacy is seen as exploitative. In Spain, the general response is if you want a child and can’t have one, adopt an African or Latino child. People have IVF but, if unsuccessful, the general thinking is adopt a child from another country.

Sorry - misspoke: if you can’t have a child without medical intervention, the general thinking is have IVF which I think is pretty successful. If that doesn’t work, then the thinking is adopt - and often the children are from Africa, South or Central America.

Paris Hilton and Michael Jackson have nothing to do with Hollywood. And this is to do with people’s private lives, not with some sort of industry stance that Hollywood has taken.
