Those were probably the highest scores that were not admitted. Someone with map-m 293 was not admitted to the math and science program.

Well, it could be for other reasons/ criteria that we are oblivious. for example, low grades / limited extra curricular etc.

Any idea if Magnet programs in Blair & Poolsville considering MCAP scores for 2024-25 year student selection criteria?

What? Obviously not.

Don't Miss the punchline from board member Bartley:

Dissent of Shawn D. Bartley:
I am not certain the magnet school process meets the objectives of Maryland's Blueprint by
delivering opportunity and promise of a better future to EVERY Maryland Child. A child's desire
to be included in a public school program should not be forfeited by a selection committee and then eventually a random lottery. It's in the best interest of all students in Montgomery County
that the county change the process and lottery with more than deliberate speed

Also, is the wait pool actually a lottery, or was that part an error?

I don't understand what the person said. Can someone translate?

Just wanted to mention my daughter had a 276 map m, 255 map R, and a 4.0. That got her into humanities+global ecology first round, but wait-listed at SMCS. There are a ton of really good math students from our area so not a surprise. If you are coming from a high performing area, you may need a 280+ for SMCS.

What is the map R requirement for Richard Montgomery IB?

"Need" is very fuzzy. Over half of SMCS invites are for below 280 M. Extracurriculars achievements and essay have some effect.

How much below, though? The give median but not mean. My guess would be that mean is significantly higher.

No idea but DC said DC's classmates who got off WL had MAP scores in the 240s or possibly lower. There were a lot who got off WL.

They don’t know which “area” you are applying from. They do not know your middle school.

I do strongly feel at some point, they know the high school cluster of the applicant and possibly cut off scores could vary depending on that. Otherwise, SMCS in Poolesville may have high concentration of applicants from fewer schools, which I believe is probably not the case.

I hope this is is not true. The process is claimed to be school blind

How do they make it school blind? Are they removing all references to a middle school from the open ended responses? Seems likely that something would fall through the cracks...

Poolesville is too far for most people.
